This box set contains selected episodes from series one and the entire series two of the classic ITV drama series.

It's 1945 and Corporal Harvey Moon (Kenneth Cranham) is demobbed and returns home to London's East End. Everyone believed that the former Clapton Orient footballer had been killed in action so plenty has been going on in his absence: his wife Rita (Maggie Steed) has been making a succession of American GIs feel at home; his daughter Maggie (Linda Robson) has grown up into a young woman who is more than capable of taking care of herself; and his son Stanley (Lee Whitlock) is under the misguided illusion that his Dad was a heroic secret service agent - and on top of all this, his home has been reduced to rubble.

Episodes Comprise:

At last! Well worth the very long wait

I have been waiting for too many years for this marvellous series to be released on DVD. At the heart of these stories is the everlasting East End spirit and humour that carried people through the long years after WWII. I could quote some of the brilliant one liners everyday - everyone is a gem! The actors are superb with the fantastic Kenneth Cranham and Elizabeth Spriggs to name but two. This was the springboard for Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson and many others making their debut. You can experience how it must have been at this difficult time, the attention to detail is amazing. I can highly recommend this DVD and hope that the other series will follow shortly - can't believe I had to wait 25th years!

Why not every episode though ?

This series is pure joy to watch but why are the rest not on DVD as well? There are so many more that are somewhere just gathering dust. Is it not criminal to deny us all the chance to view such a wonderful series.

Reach for the Moon, you won't be disappointed!

Shine On Harvey Moon is a wonderfully nostalgic look at life just after the second world war. It is comedy drama at it's best and is suitable for family viewing. I watched this series years ago when it was first broadcast and it is just as good now, as it was then. Highly recommended.
