Academy Award winners Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett give wickedly entertaining, Oscar-nominated performances - one as a woman consumed by her colleague's guilty secret, the other, a victim to her own dark obsessions - in this sexy, stylish thriller. Dench mesmerizes as Barbara Covett, a teacher who rules over her classroom with an iron fist, yet leads a desperate, solitary life outside it. That is, until she meets radiant new art teacher Sheba Hart (Blanchett). Although at first overjoyed with her newfound kindred spirit, when Barbara discovers that Sheba is having an affair with a teenage student, her jealously and rage spiral out of control.

this is a story of a ageing and lonley school teacher
( dame judi dench ) who becomes obsessed with a
new and younger member of staff ( cate blanchet )
who in turn has problems with a marriage to an older
the older teacher thinks she has it made when she
discovers ' cate ' to be having an affair with one of
her pupils, and offers her shelter when 'cate ' has a
split with her husband.
this film has a hint of blackmail and a lot of jealousy.
a sensitive and considered performance by both of
these great actresses.
fear of growing old and alone, this is 'judo dench's' role
nobody could have done it better.
this is a worthwhile watch. ' enjoy '

What a treat to watch two of the best actors of our time in the same movie! Judy Dench is an international treasure; Cate Blanchett never looked better or created a more compelling character in any of her other movies.

A superlative creator of character. "Notes from a Scandal" tells us a lot about the "British" penchant for relishing "scandals" (they invented the tabloid press) and also about the odd, intersecting relationships that have become a nearly commonplace reality in the contemporary world. Both Blanchett and Dench (as Sheba and Barbara) teach at the same Islington secondary school. And both, in very different ways, embark on "inappropriate" relationships that create turmoil in their lives and the lives of their community.

Judy Dench conveys the desperate loneliness of her character's life and a remarkable scene of her smoking a cigarette in a bathtub conveys the distinction between her kind of loneliness--an older, unattractive, single woman with no real connections in life--and the more endurable kinds of loneliness that many of us share.

This is a gripping film that moves crisply from one scene to the next, missing only a very few beats along the way. A must see

Thrilling drama, bound to keep you on the edge of your seat.

'Notes on a scandal' is definately one of the best films i've seen in a long time. Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett's performances are what makes this film outstanding. Their good acting and ability to work so well together in their characters really gives this film the credibility it deserves. However, it's not only the actresses part in this film that makes it so great.

The storyline is not the most original of ideas. Teacher and student have an affair, some people don't agree, etc. But the way this film is put together, and the power it has on the viewer makes the film a thrilling and gripping tale, from start to finish. Very well recommended, and well worth a fiver.

Blanchett's performance as the vulnerable, slightly insecure teacher Sheba Hart and Dench's role as the lonely, scheming Barbara Covett truly make the film so compelling as two of the best actresses in cinema go head to head in both Oscar nominated performances. Bill Nighy's performance is also very note worthy and a masterful score by Philip Glass. I'm glad it stayed so true to the fantastic book by Zoe Heller.

This is a powerfull masterpiece with a dark and deceptive side. The plot is mindblowing and the acting is superb with special note to Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench, in one of her darker appearances. Notes on a Scandle is rich in life and a must see. It grips the watcher, leaving them stunned. It really is truly magnificent.
