In the vein of Dark Water and Phone, The Red Shoes is a toe-curling chiller that takes you for a walk on the darkside...
Mysteriously abandoned on a subway platform lies a pair of red shoes. When a young woman Sun Jae discovers them, she takes them home unaware of the sinister curse that exerts its power over all those who come into contact with them. Soon, Sun Jae and her young daughter fall foul to the desires of a malevolent spirit seeking revenge beyond the grave, becoming obsessive rivals for ownership of the cursed shoes. But who will take the final walk to their grave?

I had seen this DVD a few times and while it was lower in price I snapped it up. It reads as many Asian horror's do, cursed item, doomed hero, innocent child etc.
In the most part it delivered. A nice early shock then led to a fairly captivating storyline, not as difficult to follow as many Asian horrors. It becomes clear the main character is losing her mind after finding the doomed shoes, and the frequent fights between her and her small daughter over them grow tiresome, even if they are an important plot line.
The ending is satisfactory and possibly twists in a way you didn't expect, especially the final few minutes. The constant flashing lights are to reflect the state of mind of the characters but some people mind find it a bit dazzling. The story behind the shoes feels a little weak and drawn out but involves some nice slow dance scenes to combat the speed of the present.
As I said, large portions of this film involve flashing lights for extended periods of time.
