In the future, intelligence is extinct
From Mike Judge, one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King Of The Hill and Office Space, comes an outrageous sci-fi comedy that'll make you think twice about the future of mankind.
Meet Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson). He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. But when a government hibernation experiment goes awry, Bowers awakens in the year 2505 to find a society so dumbed-down by mass commercialism and mindless TV programming that he's become the smartest guy on the planet. Now it's up to an average Joe to get human evolution back on track!
Filled with razor-sharp sarcasm and outrageous sight gags, Idiocracy will make you laugh out loud whether you're an absolute genius or a complete idiot!

Unfortunate to have to tell people this message

The film did not need to be heavily marketed as it will gradually build a massive cult following which adds to its greatness. The filming is carefully crafted as to not out shine (and therefore add to) the frighteningly important messages this film has to offer as well as to reach the neanderthal mentality of the young generation so they don't miss the messages. As a teacher I have used this on a number of classes as a spectacular tool to reach and change the mentality by logically frightening them away from where the future of the massess seems to be heading - the more young people that watch this, the better (provided it is narrated by an intelligent person).
good idea, didn't pay off

a good idea for a film, but it's not put together well, with tacky sets left right and center and many poor acting performances, although the star luke wilson puts in an solid performance..
there was potential to make a point with this film, although that was clearly never the intention.
there are points in the film where it is funny, but they are few and far between...
