The romantic comedy Music And Lyrics follows Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant), a washed-up 80s pop star whos been reduced to working the nostalgia circuit at county fairs and amusement parks. Everythings predictable in this mildly amusing but totally forgettable Rom Com from director Marc Lawrence. Hugh Grant plays a past 80's Pop star who is offered the chance of a revival if he can write an effective song for a teen sensation. He can't write but finds that Sophie played by Drew Barrymore can and thus they begin to scribe a tune together.
The performances bar Grant are fairly dull and whilst the film's first hour is breezy and entertaining enough the final 30 minutes drag horribly. Some good jokes can be found among the bad, but overall the film is predictable and patchy, probably not worth your money, but on a Friday night you could do worse for your time.

Standard fare with the usual inconsistent wavy-hand type characters that populate most American romantic comedies. No plot worth speaking of, but it you like this sort of thing then you could do a lot worse.

 Worthless Tripe

Wow, people are actually giving this film 5 stars!
That really is unbelievable considering the story, script and acting was ruibbish!
Viewing many reviews ive seen on this website I can only conclude that the people writing review are kids with absolutely no clue! These ridiculous ratings render the whole the review facility worthless and of no benefit to anyone.

I don't normally review DVD's am a book reviewer normally - but this one I had to comment on - love Hugh Grant anyhow and Drew Barrymore is lovely - watched it purely because of them! turned out to be really quite amusing and that song"pop goes my heart" is soooo catchy I can't tell you - been a week since I watched the film and me and my other half still keep singing it!! ha ha!! I have to say though - Drew look rather skinny in this film - I prefer her looking a tad curvier! but still - can't have it all ways - anyway - back to the film - typical romcom - of course you know what the endings going to be - but I liked it - an easy film to watch - it doesn't always have to be an epic to be enjoyed does it!!

 A Suprisingly Good Film

I was pleasantly surprised after begin forced to watch Music and Lyrics, it was good, as long as you don't take it seriously, it is full of cheesy songs and dancing from the 80s which you can't help but laugh at.

I also liked it because you didn't have to think about it and it didn't drag on. Also Hugh Grant making a fool of himself dancing as if it were still the eighties to audiences of middle aged women who loved him in their teens was amusing for those who are not Hugh Grant fans.

On the whole the movie is sweet and endearing without being too much of a Hugh Grant cliche, worth watching, even if its just for the Pop Goes My Heart video.
