In 2006 the world woke up to Casino Royale, that introduced us to Daniel Craig as the new bond, and the series had a much needed reboot, taking us to the agents early years. This brought us a new and gritty Bond, and the film was superb. It left fans old and new begging for the next installment. So now it is here, does it live up to the previouse movie? Well to start with the title takes some getting used to, but after watching the movie every thing is explained.
This movie is the only Bond film to be a direct sequel, and starts moments Casino Royale ended, with Mr White now firmly in Bonds hands, with Bond extracting by any neans the infomation he needs to find out who he and Vespa was working for. But thats all I'm going to spoil, as telling more would just spoil the ride. The film is another brilliant, gritty thrill ride, with a good plot and amazing action sequences, and lives up in every aspect the high standard that Casino Royale set up. With only two Bond films under his belt Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever. Quantum Of Solace is one of the best films of the year.

If you thought Daniel Craig should have lightened up more in Casino Royale, then you may find this outing rather heavy going.
In many ways it's half a star down from the previous Bond - the set pieces are smaller; one in particular is shot in such a way that it loses all possible excitement, and almost seems to be an attempt to deliberately confuse the audience. However, we do have one stunt section revolving around an upside down Bond with his ankle caught on a rope that manages to inject a few thrills into the proceedings - and the short dogfight sequence is enjoyable, if a little bit too silly compared to the rest of the film.
For the most part the script is snappy, there are only a couple of clunky lines of exposition. The plot follows on nicely from Casino, although the reappearance of Mathis and his rather bizarre demise seem a little ill-judged. Still, at least Felix is back, and this time we're not sure whose side he's on. There's no attempt to flog us an Omega watch, but you get the feeling that the makers of a certain camera phone put a few pennies in the coffers.
The ending is not quite as climactic as it should have been, unlike the much derided Die Another Die the action scenes don't build on one another - we have a car chase, exciting gunplay, then some lesser stunts, a dogfight, freefall, big fire, and then for a short film it seems to linger a little too long on tieing up the loose ends and preparing us for the sequel.
Having said that, Bond hasn't lost his way and things are looking good for the follow-up. At least it makes you think, and all the faults mentioned are minor compared to the overall experience.
Casino Royale was fantastic and I had high hopes for Quantum Of Solace but was let down. The storyline is terrible. Rubbish film.
Although 'Quantum' does not match 'Casino Royale' for plotline and intensity, it is still a damn good effort and managed to bring some awesome action sequences to the screen. The plot is a little weak; Bond spends his time hunting down the infamous 'Quantum' organisation to bring justice to those who blackmailed and killed his beloved one, with only vengence on his mind. As you see, it's hardly the myriad of espionage plot threads common in spy thrillers.
However, this film does have one truly stand-out factor: the girl. Olga Kurylenko is really good as "the bond girl", because at no time is she a wet blanket making incompetent decisions, but instead a deadly assassin, matching the finesse and skill (not quite brawn) of Bond himself. At no point was I irritated by her incompetence (although all beautiful women need to be captured at some point for Bond's inevitable rescue) because, she is fully competent and hot to boot.
A good bit of action and well worth a watch, this film still demonstrates that the re-birth of the Bond genre was a great idea, although i feel that this film is more a sequel to 'Casino Royale' than a unique Bond film in its own right.
