Firstly why I have I given this film 3 stars, well first and foremost it is for the martial art scenes which are some of the best I have seen in a long time. As a film itself it would probably only get a 2 as the story isn't particularly great and is more a vehicle for allowing Tony Jaa to show his fighting skills.
That being said though The Warrior King does start of well enough with the director painting a very tranquil picture of Thai life and the relationship Jaa's village have with nature and their families/community. in particular elephants play an important part of daily life. This is mostly shot through a slightly hazy lens and the rich colours are accentuated to show a heavenly, peaceful existence. This technique works very well and some interesting camera changes make this a viewing treat. This part of the story is also surprisingly quite emotional as you can see how much the elephants mean to the community and how Jaa's character grew up with and cared for them. This doesn't in any way feel like a forced or ungenuine bit of acting and really gives you a connection to the elephants yourself.
However the problems start to show once the film changes locations from Thailand to Australia and this emotional connection is almost lost (until the end), everything gets a little bit silly and the previous beauty makes way for a more ugly urban exterior. Whilst this is good to signify the change in life style, it changes the style of the film a bit too much and goes from a serious to a more tongue in cheek story. If the film had kept in its original vein then it would have been better.
Initially I was worried that the film was going to get weighted down by the lacklustre story and it took a while coming, but once the fights start (from fight number 2 onwards) get ready for a rollercoaster of punches, kicks and broken bones. Make no mistake the fight scenes on offer will really excite martial artists and fans of the genre. Top fight scenes, well all are great but the main ones to look out for are the 2nd fight in the warehouse which is reminiscent of Jackie Chan in Rumble in the Bronx, the scene in the hidden restaurant (which is done using only one camera shot, brilliant), the fight in the temple which features a few different martial arts styles such as a really good capoera fighter and the final fight which sees Jaa going through 10's of baddies, each one get a little something they will always remember from the Muay Thai star (you'll know when you watch it).
There are other great pieces of direction throughout the film but it is the fight scenes that are the real attraction as they in particular are well shot with the camera being far enough away to be able to enjoy the fighting but being close enough to feel like you in it. Some films tend to cut away to another camera angle or get to close into the action but this film in this respect has the balance just about right.
It is Jaa's ability which again shines out and in particular you are treated to some really complex chorography which includes multiple enemies, weapons and some of the best grapples I've seen on film. So basically if you love martial arts films then you have to see this, otherwise stay well clear.
disappointing movie

Having recently watched Ong bak i was really excited about this film. This film was a huge disappoinment. The story, voice acting, special effects are all awful.
Having said all this some of Tony Jaas stunts and moves are amazing, and if this is all you are looking for then get this film. But be warned they are no where near as good as ong bak's.
Tony Jaa does it again!

After Ong-Bak I expected another amazing film from Tony Jaa, this is it! He completely kicks butt all the way through and gives an amazing performance.
I love the story to this film and also the martial arts. The stunts are brilliant, after watching this and Ong-Bak I just can't wait for Ong-Bak 2! 5/5
OK but not amazing, 3 stars, scraping 4.

Just watched the movie and as a martial artist i can tell you this is another movie which conveys mostly unrealistic martial arts moves throughout, however the fights are frequent and action packed and the stunts are very good which makes them more than watchable. The movie is definately not for the lighthearted however and there are some disturbing scenes in it. Overall the fighting is impressive and the camera angles and filming are brilliant which really involve you in the film ---- 3 stars, scraping 4.
All out Bone Breaker!!!!!!

Warrior king kicks major ass bigtime,Not since"Errrr-Errrr"Since"Never have i seen such Adreniline Fueled Bone breaking Martial arts Action scenes.I Actually found this film to be more of a rush than Ong bak,The main reason is the One take club scene"it,s Awesome,So,s the Choreography of the Roller bladers scene, and the Final fight scenes are just shamefully violent and Action packed"One scenes like a 100 ways to break an Army of Attackers Bones.Tony jaa,s one of the most Efficiant martial Artist,s working today or any other day"& for that reason i wish he,d hurry up and make another Film.

This film is not as good as Ong-bak but it is still Excellent. again Tony Jaa puts in all in this classic film and with no CGI, no stunt doubles it is a film not to miss. Buy or Rent you will not be disappointed.

First thing to say is that this really isn't for anybody who is looking for intrictate plot lines, comedy or a cushy love story. Because the story isn't really great but after you watch this movie you realise that the story is somewhat irrelevant.
To start it off Tony Jaa is absolutely insane in this movie does his own stunts and the martial arts sequences are stunning. The fights are high tension and in some cases Tony Jaa's anger really shines through. The movie culminates in a literally bone crunching finale fight that will have you on the edge of your sofa. Added to this, really innovative camera work brings this thrilling movie to life.
*Really recommend this to ppl who like a gd bit of action, also recommend his previous movie Ong Bak.
Superb, though RSPCA may be gutted if they saw this!

Excellent film, totally agree with the comments regarding the stairs fight. Near the end of the film the action get's notched up to 11 - you want a good popcorn flick with tons of action - you will defiantly like this.
The scene at the end with the elephant is nuts!
Pre-warn you the story is diabolical, but in the finish..who cares when the action is this good!! Highly recommend
i agree

Make no mistake about it. Tony Jaa is the no.1 serious martial arts entertainer of recent years. He does all his own stunts, his stunt team wear metal skull caps so they can go at it full contact in a lot of the fight scenes. He's acribatic and most of all he kicks large amounts of butt. The scene to look out for is the one where he works his way up several floors of a large restarant via a huge winding staircase beating the hell out of a LOT of bad guys which was filmed entirely in one shot. How fit is he? And it's not the only amazing fight sequence. If you're a martial arts fan and you don't like Warrior King or Ong Bak there's something seriously wrong with you.
