Review

They've turned into the things they hated most... each other.

It's A Boy Girl Thing is a brilliantly funny romantic comedy about next-door neighbours who live worlds apart. Woody Deane (Zegers) and Nell Bedworth (Armstrong) are life long sworn enemies who wake up one day to find themselves in a very strange place: each others bodies. In their switched identities, each sets out to destroy the other's high school reputation. When they start to succeed they get more that they bargained for. Sometimes falling in love can be an out of body experience.

I watched this on DVD last night, because the DVD player wouldn't play anything else. When this came out a few years ago, I had no desire to watch it at the cinema, I wrote it off as just another teenage romantic comedy. How wrong I was! Even though the body-swap formula has been used and re-used countless times by Hollywood film makers, this film does have something special. That something special comes down to the amazing acting by both the leads. Playing a different gender must be a hard thing to do, and these two absolutely nailed (ehem) it. The star of the film is surely Samaire Armstrong who plays Nell, she is just so convincing as a guy. Keven Zegers is also very good, the crying scene with the teacher is a particular highlight.
For 4 quid, I would definitely say buy this. You get your usual fix of teenagers coming of age, romance, lots and lots of laughs, plus a bit of something special.
