So here it is, an even longer version of a film that was too long to begin with. In many ways, Stone has failed to produce an entertaining epic - but there is still plenty to enjoy and it's certainly better than 'Troy'. However, it tries to do too much, and Farrell just isn't up to the job. Still, bonus points for bending reality in an attempt to up the watchability - but you'll need a lot of stimulants if you're planning on paying attention for the full 167 minutes.
Well, I am big into my history, and I absolutly hated the first movie and the directors cut, however this version is what I had hoped for all along. He is still the most unconvincing Macedonian ever, and to make up for it everyone else has an Irish accent as well, but I can forgive that. This is to the cinema what Rome was for TV
Certainly not a film that was ever going to suit the masses or try to be a commercial hit as the likes of Troy or dare I say Gladiator. This is a very brave movie, depicting the true spirit of Alexander the Great. With absolutely breathtaking cinematography and some of the most impressive battle sequences ever shot on film, this is not just a movie it is an epic. The outstanding score by Vangelis greatly complements the experience and helps the drama of the action scenes. This film deserves to be watched without preconceived bias formed upon some most undeserved reviews. Reviews written by people who obviously couldn't grasp the concept of this opus by one of the most gifted directors of our time.
This is a definite must see movie. We can follow Alexander through his relationship with his father and mother and also through to his leadership of his men from Greece over the Himalayas into India. It is a fantastic movie which cannot be compared to Gladiator or other sword and sandals stuff as it is based on historical events.
Alexander is a truly epic film that sees legendary director Oliver Stone at his best. I really found the battle scenes riveting and the compelling story of Alexander's life told with style and panache.
This is a long film but I didn't feel that it dragged and thought that the new cut made the film flow a lot better compared to the original. Val Kilmer's accent may be not entirely appropriate as the role of Alexander's father Philip but I still found some of the performances top notch and with a steller cast including Angelina Jolie, Colin Farrell and Anthony Hopkins who all put in great performances.
A must see for anybody interested in Alexander's life and those who were fans of the original versions.
