Doctor Who: The Runaway Bride (Dr Who)

The Runaway Bride, the Doctor Who 2006 Christmas special, was definitely one of the highlights of 2006's turn of the annual tradition of 'Xmas Telly'.

The story is a rough and bumpy ride from start to finish for an average woman called Donna Noble (played with hilarious ease by Catherine Tate), who gets teleported into the TARDIS whilst walking down the aisle of her own wedding and finds out that she is a key to unlocking an ancient spider race, the Racnoss, that has laid dormant in the centre of the Earth since its creation. Her only hope is with a mysterious stranger called the Doctor (again played by the brilliant David Tennant), who has recently taken a darker turn since losing the most precious thing in his lonely life; his dear friend, Rose.

With plenty of action, suspense, drama and comedy (notably the chase on the motorway: "You've got to jump!" "I'm in my wedding dress!" "Yes! You look lovely, come on!") This episode was a brilliant story featuring many examples… more »

This episode was a brilliant story featuring many examples of wit and references to current topics; (weddings, X-Factor, Torchwood and even Mr Saxon) a common feature in the work of the brilliant writer, Russell T Davies, and also works effectively to fill the gap between the end of Rose Tyler's story and the beginning of Martha Jones journey in time and space.
