There are far too many comparisons about this relating it to Family Guy. Yes they're both Seth McFarlane cartoons. Let that be the only comparison.
It's very good in it's own right, Stan Smith is one of the funniest television character of the decade with his stupidity and terrorist-related paranoia.
Francine is the token american-sitcom housewife whose frustration with Stan is more than imaginable. She also has a dark-side which rarely crops up but when it does she is brilliant (see the George Clooney episode!).
Hayley is the perfect Laurel to Stan's Hardy. The way the two character clash is brilliant.
Steve is weedy and geeky but aspires to be as 'cool' as his dad. His aspirations to be like his father often make him look a fool, much like his father really.
Roger, the adopted alien, is (in my opinion), the flaw to the show. Though a lot of people like him I personally find him annoying and don't think he brings much more to the show than just being there as someone for Steve to talk to. His attempts to be funny rarely work for me.
On the whole a brilliant character comedy, well worth watching whether you like it's cousin or not.
Finally gets off its feet.

I'm a huge fan of Family Guy, and when I heard about American Dad! I thought it would be as hilarious as Family Guy, and boy was I wrong. Season 1 (or Volume 1), had some funny moments, but I was still waiting for it to really take off. I didn't buy Volume 2 because I wasn't impressed with Season 1, but I saw it for £9.99, I thought I may as well try it out, and I'm so glad I did. The first episode had me laughing out loud, and by the end of Disc One I was crying with laughter - it really is *that* funny.
The first season was more of an introduction to the show and its basic mechanics, and Volume 2 builds on them and it really shows. Fantastic voice acting, fantastic animation and a fantastic show. At this price you can't go wrong!
Delivered!

I expected a lot out of American Dad after buying Volume 1, I was not disappointed with Volume 2. I really enjoyed watching every episode, only one issue with this is that I finished it soo fast! Already have Volume 3 on pre order!
Very funny

People compare this to Family Guy because it's easy to do so. The animation is similar, the voices are familiar and it's made by most of the same people.
The fact is apart from a few traits of certain characters, American Dad has a very different feel to Family Guy. As everybody should know, when Family Guy was cancelled after its Season 3, American Dad was spawned as a kind of back-up show. When Family Guy was brought back due to impressive DVD sales, American Dad just kept going and now we have two great shows. Lovely story innit?
This box set is all muddled up and contains the second half of the first real season and the first half of the second season - very weird, and presumably a result of them testing the sales water with only half of the first season originally. At least they've now called this release a "Volume" and not a "Season" like they keep doing with Family Guy releases (we all know Family Guy Seasons are now chopped in half for DVD to make more moolah).
Still, ignoring the fact that the episode collections are inconsistent with how they were originally aired, American Dad promises laughs that strangely become funnier with repeat viewings. I don't agree with people who say the first "Season 1" DVD release is weaker that the others though. In fact I tend to think the opposite as it contains arguably the best episode "Bullocks to Stan", the special double episode "Stan of Arabia" (which actually feels like a season finale), and the first and most impressive appearance of the gold turd.
A great Boxset

I watched a few episode of American Dad and found it to be really good so I bought season 1 and 2 on Boxset. It really makes me laugh Stan has got to be my favourite characters he is so funny. American Dad must be the only place where you would see an alcoholic alien and a German Fish. Season 2 has 19 great episodes and i would differently recommend buying it.
Outstanding!

After waiting a long time i finally bought season 2 and now i wish i got it sooner. The style of comedy and jokes as you would expect from the makers of family guy (all be it a bit less random) and season 2 is dare i say it better than season 1. Don't fall into the trap like so many do by comparing it to Family Guy and The Simpsons, it is its own show and it is in a word OUTSTANDING!
The Best Ever!!!!!!
