Really enjoyed this movie in a odd way. A friend watched and did not like it as he thought nothing happened, and i can see what he means, not much does happen in a In Your face kinda way.
I enjoyed it on 2 levels, first being a straight up Action, Chase flick set in a recognisable future with some brilliant moments of tension and stunning shots that went on and on without a cut (the attack in the car and Clive Owen going into the building to get the girl towards the end). On another level it was scary to see how we could end up in such a world where civil liberties have ben taken away. and it is almost like a Orwellian world. I won't pretend to make out i understood all the themes and views, but the movie lingered on with me for a few days. Fantastic acting, Clive Owen and Julian moore were good, Michael Caine was ab fab.
Not evriones cup of tea i guess.

Probably The Best Mainstream Film of 2006

A very well made film. Cuaron continues to impress as a director with a very good film with lots of politcal messages. It's an actioner with a brain, but at the same time, our hero never picks up a gun to fight, he's not John McClane, but that's what's so cool about it. There's a huge message of peace being spread in the film and a look at what may become of England if paranoia and the taking away of rights continue.

Clive Owen delivers a very good performance, it's nice to hear him using his own accent. He stands out due to the constant long shots that happen in this film, takes of up to 2-3 minutes at a time, a real test of an actor's ability to stay in character. The scene near the end during a huge gun battle is amazing, a lot of the set ups must have needed to be done in one take and you'll see why.
Michael Caine, as usual, does his film stealing bit, but also a very touching performance.

This film must be seen, and a very worthwhile purchase.

 So-So... Acting great but story...

I had been after this film for a while, and even though a friend mentioned it wasn't all that, I usually liked to make up my on opinions about films. But on this occassion I was forced to agree. The acting and look of the film was great, but I felt a bit cheated once the film had ended. I wanted to find out more, more about the characters journey and the end result. After 'travelling' with them for the duration of the film, I was left deflated with a 'what was the point of that then' feeling.
Glad I waiting until the film was reduced before buying it otherwise I would've been more disappointed than I was last night when I watched it!

 What a load of rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing happens in this film, its slow and a complete waste of time. Watched it to the end thinking it must get better, how wrong could I be!!!!

 A must watch!

I sometimes love not knowing anything about a film but know or have been told that it is very good. Children of Men was one of these films that I'd heard good things but knew little about.

Movies set in the future are very brave as we, as the audience, are busier looking at the props and wondering, will we really have cars, clothes, buildings, etc like that in the future? However, Children of Men was certainly not like Back to the Future 2 - there were a few alternations and modifications but the props weren't the issue - it was the storyline.

It certainly isn't a bright colourful movie, all puppy dogs and ice-cream, and at sometimes it was darker than EastEnders Christmas Day special, but it wasn't depressing.

What I loved about this film was the realism (no stupidly over the top scenes), the directing, the camera work made the action flow as we felt like Clive Owen's side-kick. I also loved the acting - the characters were incredibly believable - Clive Owen was top notch. The scenery was excellent - similar to The Pianist and Schindler's List.

To summond up - Children of Men might be dark and fairly serious, and maybe not your type of film, but you can only appreciate the film as a piece of art - beautifully crafted and there to admire!
