This presentation of the first series of Hawaii Five-O is everything a fan of the show could want. Complete and re-mastered, the picture quality of the episodes is better than when originally seen on the TV. The original pilot movie "Cocoon" is presented in it's original form, with it's unique title sequence, instead of the previously shown on TV two parter. With superb performances from it's main cast, this first series introduced the characters of Steve McGarrett, Danny Williams, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono, Wo Fat and The Govenor.
Filmed entirely on location in Hawaii, the series features a large number of unknown local actors, and uses the fantastic Hawaiian scenery and locations to spectacular effect.
This first series was a little more 'cerebral' perhaps than some of the later series', however the storylines were sharp and quite often there is a twist in the tale. The only let down story for me was the two part "Once Upon A Time" which was considerably slower due to its… more »

Even though it is 40 years since these episodes were filmed, they remain of high quality, with storytelling that rivals anything on contemporary television.
Finally, a special feature "Emmes Island Moments" co-presented by James MacArthur, includes interviews done in 1996 with surviving cast members (not including Jack Lord who was in poor health at that time), who have many interesting anecdotes about their time on the show.
