Unavailable on any format for 20 years, Becket makes its worldwide DVD premiere following extensive restoration aided by Martin Scorsese's Film Foundation.
Becket is one of the great historical epics and features one of cinema's most legendary pairings; Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole.
The story tells of the tempestuous friendship between King Henry. The King appoints his trusted companion to the esteemed position of Archbishop of Canterbury, believing his loyalty will give him control over the church. However Becket takes his new duties seriously and his devotion to God soon brings him into direct conflict with the State and his lifelong friend.

This was one of those films that I never really expected to like but blew me away with the performances of the two legendary stars. Both Richard Burton and Peter O' Toole give compelling but very different performances and it is hard to say who's is better.
If you have any interest in historical drama buy this DVD.You won't regret it.

An excellent and faithful rendition of the play by Anouilh with superb performances from an unlikely Richard Burton playing the role of Thomas Becket and Peter O'Toole in the role of King Henry. John Gielgud slightly out of place as a very posh English speaking French king but nobody seems to notice. an excellent production and thankfully availale on DVD after not being around for so many years. An interest examination of relationships, most obviously between friends but also between peasant and nobleman, Norman and Saxon and Crown and Church. Must see film
