The world was watching in 1972 as 11 Israeli athletes were murdered at the Munich Olympics. This is the story of what happened next.
In Israel, the handsome and charming Avner (Eric Bana) is deeply in love with his pregnant wife. Domestic bliss is short-lived; immediately following the "Black September" attack in Munich's Olympic village, Avner, the son of an Israeli hero, is summoned by his country's famed secret service agency, the Mossad, to carry out violent retaliations against those Palestinian terrorists allegedly behind the massacre.
Commanded from afar by prickly government agent Ephraim (the inimitable Geoffrey Rush), Avner and his team of handpicked men - pugnacious South African Steve (Daniel Craig), goofy ex-toy maker Robert (Matthieu Kassovitz), morally conflicted Carl (Ciaran Hinds) and terse professional Hans (Hanns Zischler) - must deal with some shady, nefarious international figures as they track down their Palestinian prey. Their mission takes them from the villas of Rome to a seedy hotel in Cyprus and with each successful kill, Avner's iron will begins to dissolve as guilt and doubt begin to take hold of his conscience...
Based on the book Vengeance by George Janos.

Timely and even handed- this is Spielberg without the sentimental streak. The suspense of each operation is masterful; but even more impressive is the way he has the team unravel in a deluge of paranoia, violence, and guilt.
Outstanding, apart from the gripping story line the actors, period costume and sets are pleasing. Perhaps one of the best Films I have had the pleasure of viewing. Definately one to re view at any time
Fantastic and objective from Spielberg, although some thought it would be otherwise. A great cast who portray all the emotions expertly. A sad tale of revenge for a sad act, another Spielberg masterpiece rather than an attempt to clean sweep all movie awards with drivel. Magnificent.
Steven Spielberg has really done a great job with Munich. It is absolutely brilliant from start to finish, the writing is brilliant, the acting is brilliant and the directing is brilliant. The action scenes in this movie are great, each one of them has you in a little suspense. The story is a good one, it might be a slightly long movie but it doesn't seem like it. You can throughly enjoy every minute of this movie and still want to watch it again.
It's a must see movie, without a doubt of the best movies in 2005.
Probably Spielberg's best film since......Duel. A brilliant portrayal of assasins with a conscience and a big mirror holding up for the world to see how terrorism & fighting it hasn't changed!
This will become a classic over time I imagine!
