Blood And Sand:
Betrayed by his country. Beaten into slavery. Reborn as a warrior. "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" is a graphic and visceral account of Rome's most famous gladiator. When he's separated from the love of his life, Spartacus is forced into the gruesome and bloodthirsty arena, where a grisly death is primetime entertainment. Spartacus must fight for survival, befriend his enemies and play politics in this new world of corruption, violence, sex and fame. He'll be seduced by power and tormented by vengeance. But his passion will give him the strength to prevail over every obstacle, in this modern and uninhibited tale of death, honour and endurance.

Gods Of The Arena:
The House of Batiatus is on the rise, basking in the glow of its infamous champion Gannicus, whose skill with a sword is matched only by his thirst for wine and women. These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for. Poised to overthrow his father and take control, he'll freely betray anyone to ensure his gladiators are in the highest demand. And he'll have his loyal and calculating wife Lucretia by his side for every underhanded scheme, drawing on the brazen talents of her seductive friend Gaia when it counts. Together, they will stop at nothing to deceive the masses, seize power, and bleed Capua dry in this audacious prequel to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand."

Vengeance:
On the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", the gladiator rebellion continues and begins to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic in "Spartacus: Vengeance." Gaius Claudius Glaber and his Roman troops are sent to Capua to crush the growing band of freed slaves that Spartacus leads before it can inflict further damage. Spartacus is presented the choice of satisfying his personal need for vengeance against the man who condemned his wife to slavery and eventual death or making the larger sacrifices necessary to keep his budding army from breaking apart. Containing all of the blood-soaked action, exotic sexuality, villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish the series, the tale of Spartacus resumes in epic fashion.

 Absolutely Amazing

I can rarely sit through long box sets, but right from the off I watched all episodes and boxes sets over the course of a week. I was honestly gripped from the start to the very finish.

If you want to see gory fights on an epeic scale, brutality, erotica, swearing, horror, assassinations, blood and sex, then this series is definately for you.

Dare I say it, but this whole epic saga was more entertaining to watch than 300 and Gladiator - it really is that good! Both those films seems overrated when compared to the Sparactus series.

Personally, my favourite feature of the whole serioes is the pace of the episodes. Each episode has a lot happening in and kind of feels like a mini movie at times.

The first couple of episodes do start out out admitedly slow, but after completly picks up. I'd advise anyone stick with it, as thingts do get a lot better.

 Absolutly incredible

From start to finish its glorious brutality will have you locked into your seat as you watch disc after disc. Worth every penny and the bonus features give you a brilliant insight to how they made such an epic tale come to life.

The legend of the rebel slave.
Spatacus is brought to gory, lusty life in this shamelessly OTT cable series.
Created by Smallville/Angel producer Steven S DeKnight, Blood and sand follows titular warrior Andy Whitefield as he messily dispatches of his foe in the arina and plots the downfall of his captors including his mater's power hungry wife (lucy Lawless). shot in the same saturated slow-mo dismemberment as 300, and featuring frequent bouts of flesh-rending and skin baring. Gods of the Arena is a six part prequel made due to the star Andy Whitfield at the time being taken ill and then sadly loosing his battle with cancer and dieing in August 2011, but although the series is shorter the battles are typicall bloody and the plot is just as good, and is a fitting addition to the original series.
Spartacus Vengeance is the true sequel to Blood and Sand and although having Liam McIntyre replace Andy Whitfield is jarring at first after a few episodes he fits into the role well and anyway you'll be too blood soaked to give a damn. This second season contains all the blood soaked action, bare flesh, villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish this series. The tale of Spartacus is epic.
All the seasons are brilliantly pulpy but irresistible fun on a epic scale.
This is brilliant over the top comic book TV.

No Subtitles in Spartacus - not even in Latin!

They did manage to put subtitles on when Sky got their mitts on the series. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any consideration shown by the production people for folks with difficult hearing. Pity really because they would sell a few more.
