Finest show to ever grace the screens

The whole demeanour of Cagney and Lacey is just superb; the theme tune, the episodes, directing, but most importantly the acting and the main stars of this show. This DVD is the "True Beginning" - cutting out the cancelled episodes with previous Cagney wannabes Loretta Swit and Meg Forster - There is only one Cagney, La Sharon Gless. She portrays the ultimately flawed, determined and focused, yet sweet and totally adorable Christine Cagney like no other can. This is the show with THE BEST partnership ever in TV, thanks to the finest talent in acting from Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless. This show focuses on tough, yet real issues that people face even today, such as rape, abortion, racism and sexism; this show features amazing role models for young people. I am too young to recall the days when it graced the screens, but being introduced to this fine show from my grandmother, i can, at 21, see the amazing difference this is to the not to fab shows on tv today. This show is real, believable and quite addictable and the fab producer of the show who fought for over 10 years to get this show on air Mr Barney Rosenzweig, needs your help to get future episodes released on DVD - future releases are dependant upon sales of this series, and believe me, the further into this series, the better the show became, it is well worth buying and supporting for future DVD releases. This would make a fab nostalgic gift for you mother, grandmother or even yourself - its not to be missed. Support the cast and producer on their official Cagney and Lacey website to help get further DVDs released. Sheer brilliance!!
I am not a one for writing reviews, but for some reason i have a passion for this show - it is the kind of show that young people need to see, real world, tough issues - i am all for it. Many thanks

Hopefully this release will open the gates to the rest being released....my favourite cop show of all time...a must have...pure class. I understand release is dependent on sales of this first set so get out there and buy it!! Several great characters apart from the main two made this series so watchable...Saturday nights have never been the same without it.

It's a shame that the early episodes and the pilot have vanished into the ether but hey - lets be honest here Sharon Gless IS Christine Cagney! Meg Foster has those fabulous eyes and Loretta (pre horrific surgery) gave it her all but Sharon knocks them 'outta the game.' I loved Cagney and Lacey - it reminds me of my childhood, sat on the sofa with my Mum - asking her what rape, abortion, gay etc. meant. It educated and informed my little mind and it showed DYNAMIC, down to earth women. Which is probably why they continually tried to can it. Buy it and mourn the loss of quality female roles in modern drama - apart from Martha Jones of course!

I'm delighted this classic TV series from the 80s is out on DVD at last,a complete season too.
My only moan is that, the pilot movie with Loretta Swit as Chris Cagney and the first six episodes with Meg Foster as Cagney, tyne Daly as Mary Beth Lacey throughout aren't on here too.
Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly are superb togethor though, great writing and acting, good humour too and a great theme tune, enjoy!
