this is a 'ridley scott' film, that alone probably gives you a hint of it's pedigree.
i'm not going to go into great detail of the films plot, it may spoil this 'fact based' ( true story ) set in 'harlem' late sixties, early seventies.
the film contains- 'corruption' 'betrayel' 'drug abuse' 'ruthless violence' 'gang rivalry' and it also has a 'heart'
'russell crowe' plays an 'honest' cop 'ritchie robert's' who struggles throughout to identify the 'main man'
'denzel washington' plays 'frank lucas' a major player in the
'drug' scene based in 'harlem'
i believe this to be the best role i've seen 'denzel washington' play for some time.
the fact is both men are 'giants' in the roles played.
this is a powerfull drama, that a few years down the line could well be seen as a classic.
if you like 'gangster' like movies, the film is without question a ....must buy.

This movie compelled me to write a review, this really was a stunning piece of work, unlike anything we have seen on our screens in recent years. This film is an intelligent masterpiece that like its predecessors "scarface, Godfather" will retain its greatness well into the future. If your looking for a mindless shootem up, with glorified gangsters, this isnt a film for you. It takes a look into the psycological profile of a rising ganglord, filled with intense scenes, incredible acting, brilliant directing, and a great soundtrack.

This is a brilliant film, may be a bit long but its still good.

I really enjoyed watching this film, and found myself drawn into it.
Washington was superb in this film, and played the role very well. As did Crowe, who managed to stand out on his own.
I recommed this film to anybody who like's gangster films and is a fan of both washington and crowe.
This exceeded all my expactations. Very well made film.

Absolute powerhouse of a film, both Russel Crowe and Denzel Washington are both fantastic. Dialogue, camera, script and soundtrack all combine effortlessly and slickly into probably one of the best films I've seen for a good while. A must have.

Must be one of the best films out at the moment. I watched it at my mates. thinking this is not my thing. But wow its so good, i have now seen it about 5 times, each time i notice different things about it. It gets better everytime... You must see this film.

Absolutely Brilliant. Denzel Washington is so natural in front of the camera and plays the role of Frank Lucas very well. Russel Crowe is also very good in his role of chasing cop. Brilliantly filmed, brilliant soundtrack. One of the best films I have seen this year!

This is a brill film, one of my new all time fave's. Great soundtracks, Snazzy 1970's threads, brilliant.

My only dislike about the film is the violence (i'm squeamish but it is a cert 18) the opening scenes are rather graphc but it doesnt get any worse.
