Ronald D. Moore, the producer of Carnivale and writer for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, boldly re-imagined the original 1978 space opera of humans versus the robotic Cylons. He teamed up with co-executive producer David Eick on a powerful and dramatic update of the Galactica story.

The modern show introduces new elements to the Galactica story. The Cylons have developed human-form models that are indistinguishable from real humans. The Cylons have a monotheistic religion in contrast to the polytheistic religion of the human Colonies.

In the miniseries, the Cylons launch a massive attack against the humans and wipe out the Twelve Colonies, sending the 47,000 survivors on a desperate search for the fabled 13th colony, Earth.

This may be slightly weaker than previous seasons, but it's still by far the best show on television.
I think people are going a bit OTT in regards to the direction the show is taking and it's supposed decline in quality. Sure this series has a couple more less satisfying filler episodes than usual, but just concentrate on the wealth of superior one's and then look forward to what Season 4 has in store! I feel we should be enjoying this quite wonderful programme while we still can, quite frankly I think it's a miracle it's still on the air, and some could really be a little more forgiving considering just how damn good Galactica is. In any case this is an absolutely essential purchase.

 Battlestar keeps on improving

With the cliffhanger ending we were all left on with season 2 i assure you it was worth the wait. Season 3 is fantastic sci fi. The episodes well written and edgier than some of the previous seasons whilst also being darker. THe 4th episode of this season is possibly the best episode of television i think i may have ever viewed. The season builds up to a fantastic ending and this is an essential purchase.

I really wanted to give this 4 stars, or even 5 stars because whenever BSG hits, it hits hard and it hits well. Whenever it misses, though, it is terrible. The sad fact is that post-New Caprica and pre-trial, the show never gets out of third gear is and is pretty hard to watch at times. It finally gets its act together towards the end of the season, at least

I love battlestar, but the firt six episodes of this season on New Caprica are pherhaps to far off the pace of what the show has established during its first two seasons.

With all the Survivors of the Cylon annihalation staying on new Caprica under President Gias Baltar, the no frills, no spaceships is hard to get used too.

Don't get me wrong, this show in these episodes is something else entirely, insugency, suicide bombing, terror campaigns, annihalation etc..., all brilliant realised and acted by the cast.

This series begins to reveal some of the shows 'secrets', life on a cylon base ship, if Cylon six sees a Baltar in her mind as Baltar sees a cylon 6... Will it answer who the final 5 cylons are? Where is Earth, what is the eye of Jupiter?

Again, as Battlestar consistently does, dealing with tough politics, genocide, acceptance, it also as all other series has before it. Has a mind blowing finale and cliffhanger.

The best show on TV... Almost
