Chock full of weird characters, the basic premise is that several hitmen have been hired to kill the same guy. For the most part it's inventive and keeps your attention, but it seems to lose its way at the end.
If you love gunplay, action and violence and massive shootouts and hot women then look no further because this film has them all. With an all-star cast who give good performances this is certainly one good movie worth checking out even if it's for the massive showdown at the end, great stuff at this price well worth it.
Saw the trailers and thought this was gonna be one hell of a ride, what I got instead was 1 of these films thats all image and no bite and leaves you feeling really annoyed you had bother buying it, there were some ok bits in it but just what you saw on the trailers everything else in between is just boring, not impressed.
Picture the scene: In a movie studio copying room, two film scripts are waiting to be copied. One a sombre police drama involving assasins, the other an action comedy also involving assasins. A clumsy intern drops both scripts and huridly bundles them back up...into one script. Some pages also disapear under the machinery presumably.
That's the only explanation I can think of for how this film turned out the way it did. The transitions of mood and pace are all over the place. There's too many characters with too many interweaving storylines. There's a 'plot' superficially bolted onto the end as little more than an afterthought...
I think most people, myself included, who saw the trailer, were expecting something different, something less 'experiemental' ...I'm trying to be kind to it. It has pleanty of good points, but they're all so badly stuck together it barely matters.
As I said at the start, if you could untangle the storylines and film those missing pages. You might get two decent films out of Smokin' Aces, as it is you've just got a single mess.
Another good shot erm up film I have in my collection. It took me a while to understand the story but got it after a while. A very good movie from the same directer as Love Actually and other british film's. Worth a watch buy everyone.
