I don't know why i watched this the whole way through, i found it completely ridiculous and irritating to watch. I did laugh a few times so it gets an extra star.
Basically the whole story is pointless that you can predict the ending in the first 10 minutes. terrible choice of cast.

Put your partners thru this test before you take 'that' next step!. If it's anything like this movie, it'll have hillarious consequences! (hopefully, you'll still end up tieing the knot however)... Perfect Valentine comedy!!

John Kransinki (who stars in the US version of The Office) plays Ben Murphy, an awkward but adorable klutz who falls for Sadie Jones (played by Mandy Moore). After 6 months of dating and moving into together Ben and Sadie decide that they are ready for holy matrimony and meet Reverend Frank (Robin Williams) to schedule a ceremony. But they need to prove that they are the star-crossed lovers they claim to be by passing a marriage prep course prepared by Frank. It all starts off simple, with exercises to 'build their communication', but they soon find themselves looking after creepy-looking animatronic babies, which are controlled by Frank, and are under 24 hour surveillance. This is no multiple choice.

License to Wed is a cutesy, lighthearted comedy with charming performances by Krasinski and Moore. Their chemistry, along with Robin Williams' zany antics makes this a breezy 90 minutes with a great cast, particularly Frank's young cherubic assistant (Josh Flitter). Moments like 'word association game', where Ben has to describe his in-laws in a word, will have you in stitches.

This is an entertaining and somewhat cautionary tale of the realities of 'living happily ever after'. Those who enjoyed the gags of There's Something About Mary and heart of Knocked Up should look this one up.

Why I sat through watching this film I don't know. I've turned better films off quicker than this and it was 40 minutes before I flicked the switch on this particular piece of trash. However, and regretfully I decided to watch to the end later as more of car crash tv than anything else and I'm sad to say it has set a new bench mark in my 'worst ever movie' list. This is my first post on play.com as a review although I've used the site for years and trust its content I felt the need to pass on the message. Everything Aceventura said is correct, its poorly acted, poorly written and poorly executed. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. Avoid!

Evan Almighty might have been a weighty dissapointment, but as soon as License to Wed roled up it was evident that Steve Carrell and co. hadn't made the summer's worst comedy. Indeed that dubious honour falls to another big name, but unlike Carrell this name hasn't really made a good comedy in quite some time.
The man of course is Robin Williams, he plays a crazy Reverand who puts a young couple through a marriage crash course befor they can be married, with what the filmmakers must have thought where hilairious results. The filmmakers got it wrong.
License to Wed is the kind of crap that studios pass of as a comedy on a monthly basis, in the hope that the stench won't be so vile as that punters stay away. Thankfully against all odds License to Wed bombed in both the UK and US, with The Simpsons Movie and Transformers gunning it down respectively.
The script is really weak and high on sentiment and the performances are eiether highly irritating or completely flat. John Kraniski is half decent as the male part of the marriage but counterpart Mandy Moore may be sexy as hell, but the eye candy factor wares of fast and bordom sets in.
Williams is particularly annoying as Reverand Frank, the actor is clearly trying but the materials wack and he's going to far with the manic clowning. License To Wed is a stinker that just shouldn't have had a cinema release, hell it never should have been made. The final result is about as appealing as stale wedding cake and the DVD is no where near a purchase, never mind a bargain swoop or a rental.
