If familiarity breeds contempt-and children, then surely AVP2 is all out of love and needs to be castrated before another sick and twisted child spews forth from it's loins. How vindicated Paul Anderson must feel after his AVP was roundly and unfairly blamed for destroying two Fox franchises in one fell swoop. His movie had some wonderful nods to the Alien and Predator series, notably having the sense to cast Lance Henriksen as Weyland so as to have some solid level of continuity and respectability. Anderson can weave a cohesive narrative and crank up suspense where necessary without relying on special effects to brow beat the audience into submission.
And then we have the Brothers Stausse...
They sound like a cheap circus act and direct like a pair of clowns. The promise of the Aliens infecting Earth has been a cinematic legend for years. It is a horrific and hideous prospect, the extinction of the human race by an unrelenting force-the ultimate nightmare. Sadly they land in Gunnison, Colorado an American backwater straight out of First Blood, populated by one-dimensional stock characters that only serve as a human chum line for the two "directors" and their shoddy effects. In this the Brothers Strausse completely miss the point of the Alien franchise and to a lesser extent the Predator films. The extra-terrestrials are there to bring out the best and the worst in the humans: heroism, sacrifice, greed and betrayal. Instead they elicit stupidity, idiocy, gormlessness, and shouting.
The laws that have governed both franchises, carefully set up and revealed over the years are clumsily jettisoned in favour of maximum gore and minimum suspense. The Aliens gestate in seconds removing their malignant menace and the Predator couldn't fight its way out of a paper bag. All sense of mystery has been grinded out of these once fascinating monsters so as to reduce them to the level of the unfortunate Freddy and Jason-laughable former juggernauts, the movie equivalent of Mike Tyson. One can almost imagine a money sucking entourage whispering into the flabby creature's ear (do they have them?), "Hey Alien we're down to our last ten thousand and the I.R.S are knocking at the door, how 'bout coming out of retirement for one last score against that Predator guy-couldn't hurt could it?"
But it could and does. AVP is so punch drunk it makes Ali look like a contender. As the film unfolds like a one-sided fight so embarrassing that the audience are watching behind their hands, the "directors" so out of their depth throw everything but the kitchen sink at the picture when they should have thrown in the towel. A young boy and a pregnant woman are violently despatched just for sake of the gore hounds-gratuitous and unnecessary, a sinister Colonel miraculously appears, and a hot Asian actress professes to be Yutani at the end, a crass attempt at continuity.
As the movie lurches from one disaster to another the Brothers Strausse beg, borrow and steal every other Alien and Predator scene they can think of. A jittery Lieutenant, a Vasquez/Ripley clone, swimming Aliens-all of these only make the audience wish for the real thing.
In the age of the rebooted franchise surely these two are in dire need of a complete overhaul? Lets hope its not too late-or everyone will hear our screams...

4 stars for fans... 1 for everyone else

I think that if your going to watch an Aliens vs Predator movie you need to meet the following criteria to truly enjoy it:

1: Know some history of the Aliens and the Predators
2: Enjoy the original Alien and Predator movies
3: Care about the action and not the plot depth

I, being a huge fan and a collector of the comic books, movies and figurines, truly enjoyed this second installment of the best "Vs" movie chain.

I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 for the following reasons... Action, CGI, "Puppetry", Gore, Effects and Concept all true to form and are brilliant for satisfying my love of the series. Disapointments? Not enough warring. Its more of an extermination that a battle.

I hope they make a third, and include a great big alien vs predator vs marines battle. Like the comics portray.

I just feel this second installment, like the first, is a little teasing. They could have made it so much more.

That said, worth a buy if you fill the three "criteria" i listed at the top of this review. You should not be disapointed.

A good fun action pop corn film worth a look but not great!

First of all I am a massive Alien and Predator fan. Alien Vs Predator: Requiem is a good film but not great like the first two Alien films and the first Predator film. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy this film alot and the special effects are excellent. There is lots of action with blood and the actors do a good job. Maybe the next one will be something really special fingers crossed. I just feel they could do better and I hope you don't mind written down below is what I would love to see.

NOW I WILL TELL YOU EVERY ALIEN AND PREDATOR FANS DREAM FILM!!

Ripley (Weaver) goes back in time meets up with Dutch (Schawarzenger) and then write a great script for them to kick alien butt. James Cameron as Director and you would have movie magic!
I wish as Willis, Stallone and Ford are all older now too and are doing/done sequels to thier big hits from years ago.

Anyway I liked Requiem to buy when it comes out on dvd.

ON EARTH EVERYBODY WILL HEAR YOU SCREAM (with laughter)!

To compare the Alien Vs Predator series of film's to the classic original Two Alien movies ( both Alien and Aliens are two of my favourate films of all time) and the original Predator would be a huge mistake.
The films are not in the same league, but to watch them as a stand alone franchise, these films do stand up as a entertaing Sci-Fi face off.
The original 2004 Alien Vs Predator was hated by the die hard Alien fans ( I am one of the fans), I must be one of the only few people who quite enjoyed it, but it's faults were far too obviouse, with the seriouse lack of suspense and gore. Things did not look good for a sequel. How impressed I was that this sequels Aliens Vs Predator Requiem is actually a slight improvment to the previouse film. Whilst this film will never be hailed a classic. The film does go a long way to fix what was wrong with the original face off.
This movie starts where the original movie left off. With the new Alien Pedator hybrid bursting from the body of the hero predator. This Hybrid ( Predalien ) quickly slaughters the Predator crew, and the ship crash lands in the mountains, just outside Hicksville USA. A SOS is sent from the Predator ship to the predator home world, where a lone Predator is sent to clean up the mess, kind of like Mr Wolf in Pulp Fiction. The Aliens soon start nesting, and as usual the humans are stuck in the middle. This time the human characters are better written, and the Aliens are back at there best by staying in the shadows. The Predator this time has brought along some great new toys to help him do the killing. It's good to see the gore is back, and some decent amounts of tension. Also the film has some great action sequences. The only letdown is the Hybrid, This Predalien has all the hallmarks of both creatures, including mandables and dread locks, and it does take time to get used to this new look Rasta Alien!
But what lets this new creature down is how it impregnates it's prey, that at times falls into the realm of "B" movie shlock!
This is a undemanding entertaing rollercoaster of a Sci-fi movie, and it rattles along at a great pace, with its 90 minute running time, the film never out stays it's welcome. Also this stops the viewer picking holes in the comic book plot.
Whilst never coming close to being as good as Alien or Aliens or even the original Predator, it still is a good nights entertaiment.
No classic but a enertaing rollercoaster of a movie.
Like the original AVP this disc is the uncut version, that promises some new scenes and a added splash of gore.
