In Martin Scorsese's classic 1970s drama, insomniac Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) works the nightshift, driving his cab throughout decaying mid-'70s New York City, wishing for a "real rain" to wash the "scum" off the neon-lit streets. Chronically alone, Travis cannot connect with anyone, not even with such other cabbies as blowhard Wizard (Peter Boyle). He becomes infatuated with vapid blonde presidential campaign worker Betsy (Cybill Shepherd), who agrees to a date and then spurns Travis when he cluelessly takes her to a porno movie. The increasingly paranoid Travis begins to condition himself for his imagined destiny, a mission that mutates from assassinating Betsy's candidate, Charles Palatine (Leonard Harris), to violently "saving" teen hooker Iris (Jodie Foster) from her pimp, Sport (Harvey Keitel). Travis' bloodbath turns him into a media hero; but has it truly calmed his mind?

The film that launched a thousand nutters.

Where to begin? If you have no knowledge of this film then a lazy way to describe it is as 'Deathwish' with talent. A tale of a man sick of all the scum he comes into contact with on the streets, although this is mostly expressed with brooding and tension until the explosive finale. Certainly a film to make you think, and it's theme of vigilanteism is even more relevant today.

Taxi Driver is a classic movie, but not always an easy watch.
The film delves into the mind of a psychotic loner, who sees himself as a saviour.
It beautifully portrays how someone could end up being this way and how they can justify it.
You do feel a genuine empathy towards him by the end.
The story moves along at a balanced pace with the tension always brewing, leading to a violent climax
De Niro is in almost every scene and he is on Electrifying form in one of his Legendary Perfomances.
Harvey Kietel and Cybil Sheppard give good support, Martin Scorsese makes a terrifying cameo.
And Jodie Foster is Astonishing in a controversial role.
Uncompromising, Unflinching, Unmissable.

who knew what scorsese and de niro would become

This is in my top 5 films ever made and for a very good reason

Who knew that de niro and scorsese were capable of making such a film ( not forgetting a nice performance from jodie foster )

I carnt understand why people dont like this film ( the journey de niro comes on in this film is great and you really feel you know him and he could be your best friend by the end )

All the action is in the last 10 mins but this makes it good because you can see his anger and explosion of voilence

This film also caused a lot of contraversy with jodie foster who was 13 at the time playing a prostitute but that launched her career so i dont think anyone should be complaing about that

Just outstanding.

Its gritty, gripping and De Niro in one of his best performances. (although De Niro continues to blow me away in all his films lol)

I love this film!
