"There's more intentional comedy in the reversal of traditional gender roles: dominant Alice calmly orders Adam to retrieve the body of a dog she's just shot, a job he can't complete without panicking and sobbing uncontrollably. As Adam, naturally comic Danny Dyer plays such moments well, also conveying trauma and shock effectively, though his delivery is less convincing during serious dialogue. Gillian Anderson's controlled yet vulnerable performance as Alice stands out and editing gives her character plenty of room to breathe. Scenes with peripheral characters are brief and exposition is handled swiftly and efficiently. There are some unanswered questions - the relationship between Alice and her wheelchair-bound boss is ambiguous but his apparently unrequited feelings imply that Alice may prefer a virile man… more »

Ironically, she is landed with an impotent, damaged lover after the attack but then she too has changed: she and Adam are joined together by trauma and their enforced intimacy helps the film evolve.

Plot development is less successful than characterization: once Alice's revenge plans have been established, the story loses the power to really surprise. Nevertheless, debut feature director Dan Reed creates a seductive, chilling atmosphere with the help of Chris Seager's confident cinematography, using both surveillance footage and the character POVs to build on the theme of voyeurism. Peeping Tom Adam watches Alice undress though the surveillance he has set up and she later challenges him and regains control by urinating in front of him when he was hoping for sex. ("Are you watching me?", she asks, almost as if issuing an invitation.) Such startling, darkly comic moments, help give Straightheads a sense of originality - regardless of its debt to the likes of Straw Dogs - and render it an arresting watch, despite its flaws."

ok being a fan on danny dyer (he's hott) this film was the worst of his career! seriously this film half the time u dnt know wot the hell is going on. u r unsure of the relationship bettween danny dyer n the main woman because it is not made clear! all you know is they go thru a traumatic experience 2gether (which also is confussin because u can't really tell she got raped or why they attacked danny dyer) just overall a much too hyped film for what it was. it had the potential to be a good film. the story line was resonably strong i just think the director was a bit lost and mayb the script was too much for him.
honestly this film isnt worth watchin as much as i love danny dyer lol this is just a terrible film. danny dyer fans watch the buisness, football factory, or goodnite charlie bright very good films all with a good storyline and well directed. simple. if u wanna watch a bad film with a potentially good storyline distroyed by a bad director then by all means watch this but… more »
