Titles Comprise:

Uncle Buck (Dir. John Hughes, 1989): An idle, good natured bachelor is left in charge of his nephew and nieces during a family crisis. Unaccustomed to family life, Buck soon charms his younger relatives, but his style doesn't impress everyone, including his girlfriend.

The film charts his progress from slob to a reasonable human being by having to manage with girlfriend troubles, unemployment, a sex mad neighbour, cooking breakfast and a beautiful but rebellious niece.

The Great Outdoors (Dir. Howard Deutch, 1988): When an unannounced, uninvited and unwelcome family of fun-loving misfits converge upon a lakeside resort to join their relatives for a summer of relaxation, the result is anything but restful.

It's a vacationer's worst nightmare, as wheeler-dealer Aykroyd, his sexually repressed wife and eerie twin daughters 'join' the easygoing Candy and his straight-laced clan for a season of 'fun' in the sun. Unfortunately, the only thing these two in-laws have in common is their intense dislike for each other. Soon, it's brother-in-law against brother-in-law in an uproarious and hilarious fight to the finish to see which one really knows how to enjoy 'The Great Outdoors'.

Brewster's Millions (Dir. Walter Hill, 1985): Brewster (Pryor), a lowly pitcher with the minor league Hackensack Bulls baseball team suddenly is left $300 million by a distant relative. But there's a catch; he must spend $30 million in thirty days without having any assets to show for it. And if he reveals it to a soul the real reason why he's throwing away all his cash, he will forfeit everything!

So aided and abetted by his team mate Spike (Candy) and a stream of hangers-on, Brewster begins a spending spree that would bring any self-respecting accountant to his knees...

Going Berserk:Limo driver John Bourgignon is engaged to Nancy Reese. Her father, Congressman Ed Reese, is running for president and crusading against cult leader Sun Yi. Misadventure and intrigue stalk John and Nancy's path to the altar.

The Blues Brothers:After the release of Jake Blues (John Belushi) from prison, he and brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd) go to visit the orphanage where they were raised by nuns. They learn that the church stopped its support and will sell the place unless the tax on the property is paid within 11 days.

The brothers decide to raise the money by putting their blues band back together and staging a big gig. They may be on a "mission from God" but they're making enemies everywhere they go. Featuring performances by some of blues finest, James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and co-starring John Candy, Carrie Fisher, Henry Gibson and Steve Lawrence.

Top 100 Mobile Reviewer

As good as he was throughout the 80's / early 90's, JC's box set should have had different movies in it to this one, to reflect him at his absolute best, before his sad deimse.
Most notably though, in this set, is that his role in The Blues Brothers (Belushi & Ackroyd) only has him as a minor character (the Sheriff, "errrm, what car are we?")... with only 2 or 3 scenes...... what's with including that one here??
The one film that SHOULD be in this set is Planes, Trains & Automobiles (partnering Steve Martin), in which he was very funny, and also showed his soft sides too. A very poignant flick of his, indeed... especially the ending.
The best (of mine) are The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck, and PT&A (not here), with his R.Pryor partnership a slow 4th.
I'll hunt for another set of his - an ultimate collection, if there is one, where he's the star in all of them.

Some Funny, only few have Dutch subs, one sub malfunctions

It was not possible to contact Play.com so I bought this set based on the info of seperate sold DVDs. That was wrong. (Only Bleus Brothers which I already had, Brewsters, Uncle Buck have Dutch Subtitel). The subtitels of The Great outdoors (like English and German) are not working at all(malfunction). So better buy individual DVDs with good info I wouyd advice.

Uncle Buck is verry Nice but more a romance then a komedie (4*) mainly arround Candy.
Blues Brothers is an unbeatable kind of musical like Grease (5*) with a small part for Candy so in total a 3* for CandyMovie
Brewsters Millions has a nice start and second role for Candy, but it is bleeding a little to the end. So a 3*.
Going Berserk is indeed a mad and not so strong role played movie. more a slapstick. 3*.
The Great outdoors is a nice Comedie movie with a big part for Candy. I realy regret that no subtitles were running (malfunction) on this DVD , otherwise it would be a 4.5 star for me.Funny

I regret that Play.com gets to big and dont take the effort to reply on mails anymore like they did 2 years ago. Spoiled a big part of my fun on this box.

 Every one a classic

Really love this box set. Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors and Blues Brothers being the highlights but I've watched them all (more than a few times!) and on a wet weekend I find myself reaching for this collection before anything else.

 Missing a few gems

Solid enough box set, a half decent representation of the late, great John Candys work but it inexcuseably misses 'Stripes' and 'Planes, Trains & Automoblies' which are 2 of his best movies. And if they are including the blues brothers, how about National Lampoons vacation? where he has a similar, short, but influencial cameo.
