You will MARVEL at how wide of the mark some of these reviews are. The humour here is found as much within the subtle interplay between some superbly-played characters (Kevin Eldon & Nick Frost are well worth the price of admission alone...) as in the comedic situations in which the crew of HMS Camden Lock find themselves - some work better than others. Frankly lazy comparisons with Red Dwarf do not serve their authors well - this is altogether less 'frenetic' and as much character as situation based. After a stronger second series, deffo should have had a third outing. Disagree that the SFX were 'bad' - were your lenses in?! At under eight quid for the Box Set, no good reason not to give it a chance and make your own mind up.

 Poor man's Red Dwarf

Some laughs come through on this show, but only 1 or 2 per episode, Nick Frost and Kevin Eldon do well themselves with a poor script, but the script is far too thin and the episodes of no sense of a continuing story, very weak only saved by some laughs and no lack of effort from the main cast

 Very Enjoyable

I grew-up on Red Dwarf and spaced also and have and have been holding out for another series on Red Dwarf for years, when Hyperdrive came to our screen I didn't think it could compare to Red Dwarf... I was wrong! I loved Red Dwarf and have watched it to death and Hyperdrive have made laugh just as much... u have to be observant to find humour in the show joke aren't made obvious all the time and if you have the inteligence in you then you will see that the humour... well worth making another series... but I said the same about spaced and it never happened.

 Really not that bad...

A lot of people (probably the type who think "Little Britain" is the last word in comedy) dissed "Hyperdrive" - but it's really not all that bad. It's not great either - it's character-based, and some of the characters are crap (e.g. the beardy guy and his sidekick) - but it's a definite grower. Series 2 considerably stronger than 1. Comparisons with "Red Dwarf" are justified; indeed, I suspect that the Beeb specifically wanted to commission a space-based comedy to go for the Dwarf demographic.

Worth a punt - you naysayers need to open your minds a bit.

 An enjoyable series.....

Hyperdrive is an enjoyable series. Nick Frost is as always excellent and fans of his will love this. although not as good as red dwarf its still worth a purchase.

The first thing that some of the reviewers need to get over here is that whether you like it or not is a personal thing, so don't be put off by comments of "don't buy this" etc. etc.

I'm a fan of both Spaced and Red Dwarf (both 5 star programmes in my opinion) and am also a fan of Hyperdrive (albeit a 4 star score). It's more of a chuckle, compared to Red Dwarf and Spaced's guffaws, but nonetheless I find it thoroughly enjoyable.

Clearly some don't, but give it a try.

 I liked it.

As a die hard fan of Red Dwarf, HyperDrive was just up my street. It is a whitey , hillarious Sc-fi comedy.

Nick frost is funny on his own so if its got him in then you know it has to be funny. Hyperdrive is not the best made prgram in the world but it prduces the laguhs you need.

Seriestwo is alot funnier in my oppinion than the first one. But if your a fan of the Sc-fi comedy (like myself) then this is a definate must get for you.

 Like Red Dwarf

but entirely unfunny and completely unwatchable.

Watch Rob Brydon's Supernova instead.

After a couple of harsh reviews of this series, i thought id give my opinion. Kevin Eldon is far and away the highlight of the show. He plays the second in command, an over-zealous officer with a great darkside which is kevin all over. sort of reminds me of his cameo as the cleaner in a black books episode. Fans of his (like myself) will appreciate the genius of many of his lines. nick frost is hit & miss as the inept captain, and many of the largely unknown supporting cast surprise at times with some genuinely funny moments (especially season 1). i think Miranda Hart is the weakest character. The unappreciated token female. Although she is not terrible, she shares in few of the funniest moments. The episode plots are generally pretty throwaway sci-fi spoofs, and lack the originality of shows like the mighty boosh or black books, and is not as well written as spaced. some of the pop culture references are amusing, however (the episode where vine buys a planet from ebay is a highlight). Overall i would recommend this to kevin eldon fans, and possibly fans of nick frost. its dark at times and has its classic moments. Also i think its much better than some of the later episodes of red dwarf. if you like to have a collection of easy going comedy box sets that can raise a smile at any time of the day this is definately worth adding to the shelf.
