another brilliant epic from these two friends, compelling viewing, showing the true culture of countries visited and the logistics involved in making this such a wonderful adventure

  Loved it

Another amazing journey undertaken by the pair as they travel from John O Groats to Capetown, meeting many different characters along the way. The sights and history provided about cities and people on the journey are simply amazing. I held back on the 5th star, because as good as this is, Long Way Round was just an epic adventure with issues that required team work to overcome them in order for the journey to be completed. Although there are moments in this when these problems occur they are no where near the proportions of those experienced on LWR.

Good, but buy the 3 disc version

After watching the excellent Long Way Round, the 6 episode version of Long Way Down on TV wasn't quite as good. It all seemed very rushed, with little riding by Ewan and Charlie on their own, appearing to spend nearly all their time with the support crew. Then someone bought me the 3 disc, 10 episode verion for Christmas, which is so much better.

Not a bad watch, good fun and amazing filming but not anywhere as near as good as the original long way round

  Brilliant Adventure

I watched this series on TV and was very interested from the first episode. I was eager to see the next show each week and enjoyed every single one. It is good to see how people live in Africa, the culture and the way of life.

However, after seeing both LWD and LWR i have to admit that LWR is better, but it isnt because of the crew involved in this trip, as you dont see much of them. You are following Ewan and Charley's adventure and the only main times you see the support crews is at border crossings.

All in all, this is one adventure that shouldn't be missed!

  not as good as lwr!!!

well after watching lwr nothing was going to be as good in my opinion this one was nothing like it, eve got on my nerves poor charlie i did sympathise with him !! in the begining it seemed to be all about ewan it spoilt the film but there were the good parts and great scenery which is why i would still recommend this film lets face it nothing is going to come close to the lwr but if you enjoyed that film then watch this and forget the lwr and you will be ok 8/10 but still a thumbs up from me :o)

I found this just as fantastic as LWR! Two completely different adventures - why do the same jurney twice? - and I guess that's why some might find LWR much "better" than LWD. I have to agree to some aspects of Eve coming along, and Ewan's family always being there - not Charley's - but after having read the books, I totally get the whole picture now. Especially with Eve coming along.
I find this so extremely worth watching I keep mentioning it to my friends - and sometimes total strangers! Not only is it entertaining in the amazing and hilarious friendship between Ewan & Charley but this one I find a bit more of an "eye-opener" to what's going on in Africa (well, certain parts), what they're doing to make things better themselves and what we can do to help. It made me realise that some things aren't as bad as I thought they'd be and that there are places I really want to experience myself. The fact that Eve actually made after just being on a bike for 6 months or so, I found very encouraging! It's something anyone could learn to do and go and experience yourself!
Watch it - you're gonna love it! (as long as you don't think and expect it to be EXACTLY like LWR)

  Good, but has its flaws.

Long Way Down was yet another really good journey with Charlie and Ewan, but it wasn't as good as Long Way Round. The main thing that spoilt it for me was when Ewan's wife joined them, i mean, she's never ridden a bike before, she falls off more times than Ewan and Charlie but together and she seperates Charlie and Ewan at one point. would have been great if only she'd stayed at home.
