The first Sarah-Jane story

This story is great fun from start to finish, it not only introduces the greatest dr who companion of all time - Sarah-jane it also introduces the Sontarans who have recently returned in the new series of Dr Who. This adventure comes with the option of new CGI effects to replace the orginal effects, they are actually pretty good and are not too intrusive, however if you want to see it in its original glory you can watch it as it originally was instead.
most welcome DVD treatment of Season 11 opener

Launching the shows eleventh season and Pertwee's fifth and final year in the title role writer Robert Holmes offers a marvellously entertaining and enjoyable historic adventure spiced up with the debut of franchise alien favourites, the Sontarans. Definitely one of the classics not just of the third Doctor era but of the series generally "The Time Warrior" is made all the more memorable not just for the significant arrival of Sarah Jane Smith but also with typical Holmes type characters like Irongron, Bloodaxe and Professor Rubeish to name but a few. Newly spruced up for its DVD release this story is presented in splendid condition with the added option bonus of some great CGI effects which centre around Linx gun and a more satisfactory blowing up of the castle sequence. Aside from the 97 min story I was surprised and delighted with the medieval castle structure framing of images and clips from the production used within the 30 min "Beginning the End" making of documentary. Bit of a treat this time round as unexpectedly but most welcome the photo gallery has swelled to 9 minutes, a rare lengthy treat for a Doctor Who DVD. With the title rounded off by quite possibly the best cover artwork (rendered by Clayton Hickman) that I've seen for quite some time this is one marvellously appealing package.

This classic story is one of my favourite top 10 it is sarah jane smith's very first story and it is the first sontaran
story and it is also the last season of jon pertwee it has
cgi effects that you can choose to watch this story with some of the original effects replaced by 16 new cgi sequences it has a brand new documentary where the cast and crew of the time warrior look back on the makeing of this story featuring elisabeth sladen and barry letts it has a commentary by elizabeth sladen barry letts and terrance dicks and easter eggs and much more so this is one to have for all doctor who fans.
One of the best releases this year

One of the best releases this year. There's a danger with the Who dvd's of people going over the same things again and again. Yup there's some of the same stories wheeled out in the extras, but a whole new load of titbits that I didn't know, which are the real joy of these releases.
Sladen, Dicks and Letts give an honest/upbeat commentary. The documentary gives us some of the same info, as the commentators are interviewed, but I can forgive it almost everything for being gorgeously shot.
As always the optional new CGI stuff gives a fun new perspective.
I just came away from this release grinning, even if the story does have some dodgy moments I had a good time enjoying the dvd as a whole. Something lacking from some recent releases.

Aliens land in the Middle Ages. Chaos in the Castle. A fantastic classic Jon Pertwee story that introduces the character of Sarah Jane Smith one of the most successful of the companions throughout the TV series history.
Also the introduction of the Sontarans for ht efirst time that were due to become so successful that several returns would be made in the subsequent years. Perhaos they will return again?

What a superb villian the late Kevin Lindsay portrayed as Commander Linx of the Sontaran empire. June Brown without a fag is a sight to behold too!
An excellent addition to this series of DVD's.

The first sory of Jon Pertwee's last season comes out on DVD at last!
This story sees the introduction of the Sontarans, and the scene at the end of episode one, when Linx takes off his helmet to reveal the horrific dome head underneath is a real classic moment of the series.
Linx is trapped in the Middle Ages and Jon Pertwee's Dandy Doctor looks perfectly at home in this historic setting, although I was very sad to see Jo Grant(Katy Manning) leave in the previous story, new companion Sarah-Jane Smith is a welcome fiesty addition to the show,no wonder Lis Sladen is always asked back, even in the new series!
Robert Holmes wrote this cracking script and as usual the characters are really strong,Linx is a great villian, great performance by the late Kevin Lindsay, the local villian Irongron is great character too,we even see June Brown (Dot Cotton)as Lady Eleanor.
This story saw new titles for the show, which never fail to impress me,Jon Pertwee is my favourite Doctor after Tom Baker,Pertwee's Doctor was eccentric through his clothes and fancy gadgets, this story is full of fun as well as menace through Linx,I love Professor Reubish(Donald Pelmear)
The new CGI additions are very welcome as some of the effects are indeed a bit shaky and on the cheap even for 70s Doctor Who!

at long last one of the Pertwee era classics hits the dvd shelves. this is not only a great story but it introduces us to one of the series most loved companions, the nosy journalist Sarah Jane Smith (who recently made a come-back in the new series episode School Reunion with K9 and is soon to appear in ehr own series).
Pertwee and Elizabeth Sladen work so well together and form the start you can see the chemistry is gign to work perfectly as she fills Katy Mannings shoes with ease. This is a greta stiory with a great monster in The Sontaran, superb sets and wonderful extras, at long last the dusty and crackly VHS can be put out to pasture for this one.
outstanding!
