3 `We're Starfleet Officers, weird is just part of the job!'HumanLeaguefan | 07/08/2008 | See all HumanLeaguefan's reviews (218)Top 100 Reviewer Top 100 DVD Reviewer Top 100 Music Reviewer Top 100 Books Reviewer Although a tad jarring for those of us familiar with the original UK transmission line-up by pulling 4 previous year offerings into this second season 'Star Trek : Voyager' slimline box set it does make for a more typical 26 episode count with the added sweetener being that there is the option of selecting a unique information text captions option for "The 37's" story. My personal favourite of this franchise offshoot has always been "Non Sequitur" uniquely presenting us with Harry Kim back in San Francisco in a 'what if I'd not reported on board' type tale. I'd certainly praise Tim Russ excellent performance as Tuvok in "Meld" particularly in the climactic sickbay scene and I liked hearing about Chakotay's family history in "Tattoo". Although offering some great comedic lines (e.g. 'now we get to see if the pants really fit') and a unique visit to the continuum, John DeLancy's first series appearance as Q in "Deathwish" felt for me a tad muted. There were some interesting ideas in "Deadlock" including having two Janeways as well as that classic line when the Captain says to Harry Kim 'We're Starfleet Officers, weird is just part of the job!' We've got the usual type of fare when you look over the extras which by my reckoning add up to about 92 mins. The season overview is tackled by the 'Braving the Unknown : Season 2' approx 16 min offering whilst this sets 'Voyager Time Capsule' turns its attention to Tuvok and stretches to about 13 ¾ mins. It was interesting to hear in this about actor Tim Russ directing a feature called 'Roddenberry On Patrol' which I'm certainly curious about seeing. Although we have a look at the Seska character in a 6 ½ min 'Saboteur Extraordinaire' item I liked the video diary feature 'A Day in the life of Ethan Phillips' at almost 7 mins in length. Once again we've got a 'Red Alert : Visual Effects' offering (12 ¾ mins) and more 'Real Science with Andre Bormanis' (approx 11 mins) but probably the best extra is an approx 10 ½ min feature on 'Designing the U.S.S.Voyager', definitely one of the best looking Starfleet ships that the franchise has offered. The photo gallery, a self selection option gives us 41 images whilst you should be out to find six easter eggs, one of which, to be found on the third page of the special features actually features 4 mins of Tim Russ singing a song called 'Kushangaza. No don't run away because actually it's not as bad as it might at first seem. A pleasing enough season with adequate collection of extras.
