The much anticipated release of the seventh and final season of Star Trek Voyager see the franchise boldly do what it does best and provide fans with fantastically scripted, highly entertaining science-fiction. Star Trek: Voyager made sci-fi history when it became the first Star Trek series to feature a female Captain.

It's been fun taking a leisurely stroll through this final season of Voyager which presents the same story mix of good and bad in its line up as you'd find in other years. Favourites for me include getting caught up in the excitement of the space race which Tom and B'Elanna using the Delta Flyer participate in during "Drive" no doubt helped by the enthusiasm of sports commentator Neelix! In a way slightly similar to Red Dwarf 3 "Marooned" I love Jeri Ryan's performance as the Doctor during "Body and Soul" as our EMH uses Seven's body to hide from holophobic aliens, something that helps elevate this story considerably. There's a dramatically engaging central premise at the heart of "Nightingale" which is Harry Kim's first command replete with great space battle action and the surface landing of Voyager. Some great references to past episodes/events between a present Chakotay and past Janeway in the pleasing "Shattered" story. Lastly the return of John De Lancie and his son Keegan as the 'father & son' pairing in the amusing "Q2" was a pleasing lightweight piece of fun particularly the interaction between 'Q junior' and Icheb. Right, so you've been through the episodes and now how about the special features? Well a total of about 93 mins (plus 40 image photo gallery & 26 storyboard images) lead off with the usual 'Braving the Unknown' season overview (18 mins), a 'Voyager Time Capsule' (this time a marvellous 15 min 'The Doctor' item with (Robert) Picardo talking about his favourite story ("Latent Image"), humourous idea hot he got the role and the changing Kes/Seven dynamic during the series entire run) and a fairly average 'Real Science With Andrew Bormanis' feature. This almost 14 min long item attempts to link various devices and concepts featured in Star Trek with current technical innovations like the space elevator as featured in Voyager story "Rise". Naturally some mention of the end of the series has to be made and this is tackled by the worthy approx 12 ½ min 'Coming Home : The Final Episode' item. 'The Making of Borg Invasion 4D' is a very enjoyable 9 ¼ min item on this Las Vegas casino attraction with insightful comments from cast (Picardo, (Kate) Mulgrew and in particular (Alice) Kruge) and production crew. Definitely the best item on offer is undoubtedly 'Inside Voyagers Scenic Art Department' a fascinatingly informative approx 12 ¼ min feature with intriguing tit-bits like how the computer graphics in "Future's End" were mild updates of that which we'd previously seen on Deep Space Nine story "Past Tense". Of the 5 Easter egg items you'll find dotted around the Voyager graphic hulls you'll find the best on the 3rd page of special features. Visual Effects Producer Dan Curry spends approx 4 ¼ mins talking about the truly stunning initial visuals he created for 2-part story "Workforce", a fitting tribute to sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet". A reasonable collection of episodes matched with satisfactory special features items make for a commendably pleasing DVD box set!

 Amazing finally
