In London, several women are brutally murdered. The policeman Joe is scheduled for the fall. At the same time a sinister stranger moves into the home of Joe's girlfriend, Daisy, as a lodger. The stranger falls in love with Daisy and they become a couple, much to the displeasure of Joe. He suspects the mysterious stranger as the murderer...

The Lodger is now considered one of the great masterpieces of Alfred Hitchcock. It is undoubtedly his best silent movie. Plot structure, subtile tension and uncertainty about the true identity of the hero, these are all elements recurring in the later films of Alfred Hitchcock.
