A long hot summer on a housing estate in South London. Jamie is bunking off school, whilst his mother Sandra juggles job promotion and her relationship with hippy-dippy boyfriend Tony. Next door lives sassy Leah, who spends her day listing to Mama Cass records. In the same block, Jamie's class mate Ste, although sporty and popular at school, is bullied by his drunken father. One-day, Steve seeks refuge in Sandra's flat and ends up sleeping head to toe with Jamie....

This is truly one of the best films ever made on these shores (in my mind anyway!).

The 2 main characters each have their own problems with coming out but the fundamentals are the same - growing up on a council estate in a time when being gay was a much bigger issue than thankfully it is now.

The other characters also have their problems stemming from relationships, personality clashes, close proximity to neighbours and much more and this all blends in well with the main storyline and in fact, adds weight to it. The message is simple, there are far more important things to worry about than someone's sexual preference.

The ending does seem a bit far-fetched but that doesn't take away from the warm feeling inside that most people will get by seeing it.

I lost this DVD in a break in and couldn't get it replaced on insurance due to the film being out of print at the time. I can assure everyone that this is one film that I am more than happy to pay for again.

This film is my all time favourite. I first saw it in the cinema (twice) when it came out, but I haven't seen it for a few years as I only have it on video. So pleased to see it here on dvd. It manages to be hilariously funny whilst dealing with difficult issues and takes you on a real emotional rollercoaster. Love, love, love this film!
