An absolutely cracking series, even topping the fantastic 1st season. This series has absolutely everything. A must-must purchase for the sword and sandals fan.

I am only half way through but I have had to turn it off to go out for the night.

If you have seen season one and liked it you will not regret this purchase. The first half at least is gripping addictive TV and carries on straight after the finial episode of season 1

Another well done HBO!

For those of you out there who have an interest in history you cant go far wrong with Rome, however, one must remember that this is entirely a work of fiction, yet, a trully astounding one at that. The factual characters are well developed and well played although, Brutus looked a little young compared to Caesar, considering they grew up together. An excellent watch, it was one of those boxsets you simply have to watch from start to finish. As for Rome2, I expect equally impressive storylines, characters and fictional representation of a marvellous factual history. And finally, I would like ot comment on the fact that although there is a strong cast, it is also not filled with the usual A-list run of the mill actors, those chosen clearly fdefine the character they are representing, which is empirical to a subject as stringent as Rome. For those of you out there who are also fans of the Roman history's may I recommend conn Igguldens emperor series, a fantastic read running from Caesar and Brutus firing arrows as children to his fatal betrayal amongst those he had come to trust.

i bought the first series of 'rome' after seeing all the outstanding episodes depicting the rise and fall of 'julius ceasar'
a power struggle follows, deciept, treachery and mindless violence,a good portrayel of battles won and battles lost.
this is the life and times of the 'roman' empire, it's easy
to reflect on how the greatest power of the time died from within.
following the fortunes of the major players from the first series, built around the rise and fall of 'mark anthony'

will i buy the 2nd series with it's extras ?
of course i will, i love these 'roman' period drama's.
with graphic violence, corse language, scences of nudity and sequences of an adult nature, this series as the first is aimed at adult viewers.
i own series one, and have watched this series on 'tv'
'great series' look forward to more.

I can not explain why this is so brilliant, is it the script's? the characters or even the mix of gritty seedy and flawless design of the entire series?
A must buy

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

like the first series, this is just great tv.the acting, the drama, violence etc, all put into the historical context.apparently they are not making any more.shame.but how about what hollywood do? do a 'prequel'! verenus and pullo were legionaires mentioned by caesar in his commentaries about the gaul war, so there you go! what with the 8 years caesar spent there, along with dealing with the political struggle back in rome, another series is more than possible.anyway, get this series.classic tv

This has it all. Great story, real caracters that you get involved with, good research and plots with enough artistic licence to make it exciting and watchable over and over. Series one was great and 2 bettered it for me. The BBC did really well with this and i for one would like to see it continue. Made my tv licence money worth while. Greta sex and violence in fact its like getting a hour of gladiator each week, only better. Buy it, buy it now....

Another superb series of Rome , the characters all have interesting story lines within historical context, I just hope there will be another series involving Pullo , Ray Stevens excellent role. Probably the best of recent series produced by the Beeb

Loved the first series, still watch it when ive got a quiet afternoon to myself! This series was superb too! In my opinion its the only thing worth paying the TV licence for! The rest of BBC output is poultry at best! But this is a surefire WINNER!
