- Interview with Writer & Director Bill Forsyth
Knox Oil and Gas of Houston is far removed from the North Sea oil it desires - and the sleepy Scottish seaside village it wants to buy and replace with a refinery. So Knox sends it ace dealmaker (Peter Riegart) to negotiate. He finds cheerful future millionaires, awesome northern lights, a lusty innkeeper, a stubborn beachcomber and a mermaid with webbed toes. And you've found Bill Forsyth's enchanting comedy Local Hero.
Forsyth's touch is perfect: whether showing us a tycoon (Burt Lancaster) with his head in the stars or bridging generations at an all-night ceilidh dance.

This has to be one of the best films my husband and I have seen. Praise indeed! It is funny, thought provoking and very special. You cannot compare it to any other film because it is unique. Coincidently Local Hero is on the box tonight but I really need to buy a 'proper' DVD, checked on Play, now ordered!
Forsyth magic

This is possibly the best ever....noh!...it IS the best movie ever made. It has it all ...a wonderful story/cast/score/scenery/feelgood factor 101....I just went last week to the 25th anniversay screening at the Glasgow Film thearte where some of the cast/crew and producer were on hand for questions after the showing. Can you believe the church and Happers office was a card board mock up? If you havent seen it ...Buy it ....get some popcorn/beers...turn off the lights and sit down with the whole family and treasure this Bill Forsyth magic unfold before you.
watch it once and you will never forget it

I haven't seem many films that capture the spirit as this one does, the beautiful soundtrack with it's haunting melodies, the magnificent scenery and a brilliant cast. I watched this film when it first came out years ago and love it now just as much as I did then. If you haven't seen it then you are missing a truly great film - get it now!
