Star Trek: Next Generation - 20th Anniversary Complete Boxset (49 Discs)

Forget your DS9's, Voyager's and Enterprise's. This was the last expression of Gene Rodenberry's (and let it not be forgotten, David Gerrold's) vision of Trek (The two men collaborated on the show's 'Bible'). The follow on's were nothing more than Rick Berman created extensions of a franchise, aimed at keeping the gravy train rolling. Sadly Rodenberry passed away during season 5 and he seemed to lose control of this series as much as he did the original crew's film franchise, but he (and Gerrold) conjured up this baby, regardless of whoever raised it. This and the original series are where the real Treks are. Of course the next movie is returning to the original series for inspiration. I rest my case. The crew are likable and the writing staff visibly get into their stride as time goes on. Recommended.

Just took delivery of my box set and overall I am very impressed with it. As others have mentioned, the packaging is slightly below par, but it is of minor concern.
It certainly won't stand up to abuse, but for careful owners its a non-issue.
The episode titles are listed on the face of the DVDs. It would have been nice to have a booklet with the seasons / episodes, but that's another minor gripe.
All in all, this box set is highly recommended and is worth adding to your collection.

After many weeks of questioning wether or not to buy this boxset, i took the plunge, and am now very happy with the decision. On first glance, its a very good looking boxset, and the green i dont actually mind. Open it up however, and there it is, the one thing people complain about. Yeah, the disk holders themselves. It feels (and to be honest, it is) cheap plastic trying to be held together by i dont know what, but even new, its falling apart. With care, yes, i dont forsee any problems whatsoever. My tip is if you want to get the star trek series, then this is a really good thing to get, but, only buy if you do look after your dvd's and boxes, because i can guarantee the first time you drop it, it will break.
Apart from that, its awesome. 49 Disks, and over 130 hours of viewing time. Should keep me going until i get the others! (Original, ds9 and voyager...already have enterprise....hm..)

Consider 1 series of this and things like the x-files used to cost £80+ then the value for this is amazing. Lots of viewing time and yes, once the dvd is in the drive the packaging no longer matters... However... It really is naff. For starters... Green? What's that to do with star trek? If it were a borg cube box i'd understand but it's not. No booklets and a sad little paper foldout sheet is all thats included. As long as you dont expect much it's fine--- no worse trying to get to the dvd's as the original silver boxes which took a million years to take all the damn sleeves off. Value =10/10, show =9/10 and packing considering anniversary edition 3/10.

Play have sold this boxset for an incredible £50, a bargain for a totally great series but the down side to this product is the terrible packaging design by paramount all the disks are placed in cheep green disk holders held together by a sticky back plastic strip, there is also no list of episodes or titles, just numbers 1-49, but still worth purchasing for the viewing entertainment and as i said previously £50 is a bargain by Play.
