Review

From Sanjay Leela Bhansali, one of India's most acclaimed directors, comes Saawariya, a timeless love story based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's White Nights.

Destiny weaves its magical spell when a shy musician (Ranbir Kapoor) encounters a beautiful young woman (Sonam Kapoor) - leading to four unforgettable nights filled with music, passion and romance. Overflowing with colorful costumes, lavish sets and eye popping song and dance numbers, Saawariya is Bollywood filmmaking at its best!

The movie was visually very good with the locations and background that made it come alive. Performance wise Rani was good but I personally felt her presence was slightly wasted in the movie with not having much of a role. Salmaan's role was a big let down. Newcomers Ranbir and Sonam were excellent with their performances, Ranbir is a very talented young lad and for him this movie showed he can act. Sonam looked gourgous in the movie and in some places looked like Ashwariya Rai. Sanjay Leela Bansali's Sawaariya was a different movie from his pervious work in the past, his attempt to try something different may have not gone down very well with the audience, but I believe this was one of his best movies. Apart from Rani and Salmaan's roles everything about this movie was beautiful, the songs, the story, the sets. A true Sanjay Leela Bansali movie.......

This movie is more so a visual delight, for those who appreciate artful cinema.Bhansali doesnt fail to feed the spectators with a beautiful cinematic experience; however, the concept isn't quite the match to Fyoder Dostoyevsky's short story:'White Nights'.

I expected this movie to be pretty good if not great as it is a Bansali movie but i was completely surprised at how boring it was. When you are watching a movie and thinking about other things or wondering when you will get out of the cinema you know the movie is pretty bad!! the lead pair were okay acting wise (Although Ranbir was better than Sonam - his romantic side was very cute).

I'm a big fan of Rani and her role didn't do her acting talent any justice at all.

Salman was probably thrown in for good measure, he looks tired in his scenes.

Overall a let down and the 2 stars are for Ranbir and the brilliant music!
