Customer rating: 1 out of 5 stars TUDORS - ACCORDING TO HOLLYWOOD

Aphrodite1 | 22/07/2008 | See all Aphrodite1's reviews (4) »

What a complete and utter load of mindless drivel, you can excuse the historical inaccuracy, it has a certain entertainment value, but I would have thought that they could have found a Henry that at least resembled him in height (Henry VIII was 6foot 2inches tall) even the women were taller than the actor playing him. This was obviously aimed at the American market

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Great entertainment, completely false.

I do believe that 'The Tudors' has good entertainment values, though it disappoints me that it is so historically incorrect. I have studied the Tudors and noticed major mistakes- even with the structure of the royal family. It seems the producers knew nothing about the actual Tudors when they made the series. If you want entertainment, it is a great series, but as a warning- DO NOT TAKE THE HISTORICAL INFORMATION GIVEN SERIOUSLY. It is very innacurate.

This was a truly wonderful series characters were well
and truly portrayed but there actor counterparts.
What matters that it was not maybe completely as true as
it could have been but it was wonderful and completely compelling and who can ever really say how accurate any history is

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT DRAMA, HISTORICAL RUBBISH

pooleyjnr | 25/02/2008 | See all pooleyjnr's reviews (1) »

This is great drama I enjoyed it immensely, it was put together brilliantly both in script and production, also the casting was impressive. All that said this is not to be used for school history homework, not just because it can be a bit raunchy but the historical accuracy is way out, every now and again some fact comes into to play but most of it is fiction.
Buy this if you like well made, well scripted and well produced sexy drama, but if you you like your history to be accurate shy clear and watch the discovery channel.
"Why the 5 stars" i hear you say, "your slating the historical factor", well I'm giving it 5 stars quite simply because it is a drama not a documentary and as dramas go this one hits the mark.

No, No, No, Full of historical inaccuracies. Studied Henry VIII for 3 years at University, saw the screening on BBC, Hated it. I have given this 1 star for the musical score. Do they expect us to put this sort of DVD into our collection? Try, The Virgin Queen, Sorry...

I only finished watching this on DVD last night and can say that it does not fail to live up to expectations.

From the costumes, the scenery and settings, acting and storyline, this is excellently put together. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that I, like a lot of other people on here, feel that the true course of history could have been slightly more adhered to.

Do not let any of this stop you from seeing this though as it is one of those programmes that makes it hard not to watch the next one and then the next one etc. and before long you realise that you have watched them all!

The Tudors is one of the very best period dramas I've ever seen. This is a faultless production. The CGI of Old London/Paris, the Sets, Costumes (Amazing), Sound, Cinematography, the whole bringing to life of the Tudor court is outstanding. And of course there are the actors, what an amazing cast to assemble, every part being acted superbly. In my mind Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (Henry VIII), Sam Neill (Cardinal Wolsey) and Maria Doyle Kennedy (Catherine of Aragon) are noteworthy of giving performances worthy of BAFTA's
Maria Doyle Kennedy acts her part so finely and entices so much empathy from you that you find yourself pleading for Henry to change History and Stay with her!

Awesome production, a must buy!

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Travesty of History

A sumptuous catalogue of historical inaccuracies romping along like a 'Carry On' rendition with Sid James at the helm! However, the supreme Maria Doyle Kennedy as the exquisitely dignified spurned Queen Catherine and the reluctant conscience-wracked Thomas Moore, Jeremy Northam, do much to redeem what even Sam Neill's presence could not.

"You think you know a story, but you only know how it ends. To get to the heart of a story, you have to go back to the beginning".

First of all, one thing I love about this show - the music. The themes, the tunes, oh my god I love it all. And the music that plays in the opening credits hooks me every single time. When I started watching this show upon it airing, I immediately pre-ordered the DVD set. I advise you to do the same and buy it.

As a period drama goes it is pretty good, I must say. The Tudors is a period that is quite well known and there is so much to tell, it is no wonder this has been brought forth. Bear in mind though that throughout the 10 episodes of this first series, it is a dramatization. Do not go around thinking this is true to fact. If you want that, grab a good history book. But you can enjoy this show for what it is and what it stands for. The costumes are glorious, the actors and actresses play the parts beautifully and as far as history goes, this series revolves around a much younger Henry VIII, not the old huge giant of a man people are most familiar with. And as young kings can predictably be, he has his fun, sex and what not. But his rise to power and the political struggle between england, france and spain at the time really raises the tension here. The enemies are many, treachery and uncertainty fill the air and everything is on the line.

The 2nd series is coming soon. Yes, there is a 2nd series in the making. Anne Boleyn's rise to Queen for one thing, but I won't give away all I know. Though I cannot wait until it is aired and then put in to DVD production. However, I doubt it will take long.

A great series, buy it, watch it - you WILL enjoy it.

5/5 Stars does not seem high enough to rate this wonderful series...

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Series!!

This is a fascinating period of history which is retold with all the pomp and circumstance of the period but with fantastic acting quality.
As stated in other reviews there are some deviations from historical fact as we all know but just go with it!
I don't think Simon Sharma will have enjoyed this but you certainly will! HD version is worth the extra!!
