5 A brilliant film and technically superb!jontystar | 02/06/2008 | See all jontystar's reviews (5)I realise nobody will probably ever read this, but....I too found it slow at the start, and the 'clipped' period accents just a little OTT. However, once it got going I really appreciated the pure quality and expertise of the production values. The Director - controlled the pace and level of the performances brilliantly. The Editor - cut it with great integrity and sensitivity, which married seamlessly with the WONDERFUL underscoring. The scene on the beach at Dunkirque took me to delights not witnessed since the final kissing scenes of 'Cinema Paradiso' where the score & pictures supported & complemented each other. The long, long shot takes us on a journey, and the score builds as the pictures become more intense. Listen to how the music score blends with the Soldier's Hymn singing. Brilliant!Eventually I was engaged & engrossed. Shedding a tear I realised this was a film of outstanding quality. How refreshing after all the US rubbish forced upon us! Well done all.
