On stage she was a singing legend. But for Edith Piaf, life was the greatest performance of all...

The extraordinary life of Edith Piaf; from the mean streets of the Belleville district of Paris to the dazzling limelight of New York's most famous concert halls, Piaf's life was a constant battle to sing and survive, to live and to love...

A swirling, impressionistic portrait of an artist who regretted nothing, writer/director Olivier Dahan's La Vie En Rose stars Marion Cotillard in a blazing performance as the legendary French icon.

It is always a pleasure when a movie is much better than you expected it to be and 'La Vie En Rose' is most definitely one of those movies.
Basically it is the story of French singing legend Edith Piaf and Marion Cotillard is simply fantastic in the role of Edith. It is a performance to treasure and she fully deserved her Oscar.Don't let the fact that the film is subtitled put you off. This is a very well made film with excellent acting and a moving and at times agonising story.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars A TRULY REMARKABLE FILM

To those who want to know a little more about Edith Piaf and her life then this Academy Award winning film is one way to go about it. The film is subtitled as the language is French but this should not put off anyone as you soon forget that you are reading while you are watching. The film captures the life of Edith Piaf from a very young girl to her untimely death. It is a very sad film and I was left wishing that somehow I could have lived at that time and done something to prevent the death of one of the greatest if not the greatest singers to have come out of France. The film is made with images of Edith at the end of her life interspersed with images at the various stages of her career. This in my opinion lends to enhance the mood of the film as you feel even more for Edith. A truly remarkable film and a truly remarkable lady.

i was barely aware of edith piaf, but after watching the BAFTAs where this film recieved so many nominations, i wanted to watch it. a master class in acting, especially from marion cotillard, who played piaf.
as for the 'non stop misery and humiliation' etc..., what did you expect? its about her life, so it really couldnt be shown as anything else. im also glad this wasnt made in hollywood, as i think this movie would have suffered as a consequence. this dvd is fantastic value for money. highly recommended!
