A swirling, impressionistic portrait of an artist who regretted nothing, writer/director Olivier Dahan's La Vie En Rose stars Marion Cotillard in a blazing performance as the legendary French icon.

To those who want to know a little more about Edith Piaf and her life then this Academy Award winning film is one way to go about it. The film is subtitled as the language is French but this should not put off anyone as you soon forget that you are reading while you are watching. The film captures the life of Edith Piaf from a very young girl to her untimely death. It is a very sad film and I was left wishing that somehow I could have lived at that time and done something to prevent the death of one of the greatest if not the greatest singers to have come out of France. The film is made with images of Edith at the end of her life interspersed with images at the various stages of her career. This in my opinion lends to enhance the mood of the film as you feel even more for Edith. A truly remarkable film and a truly remarkable lady.
splendidé!

i was barely aware of edith piaf, but after watching the BAFTAs where this film recieved so many nominations, i wanted to watch it. a master class in acting, especially from marion cotillard, who played piaf.
as for the 'non stop misery and humiliation' etc..., what did you expect? its about her life, so it really couldnt be shown as anything else. im also glad this wasnt made in hollywood, as i think this movie would have suffered as a consequence. this dvd is fantastic value for money. highly recommended!
Difficult to watch

No wonder Marion Cotillard won an Oscar for her role as Edith Piaf in this typical Oscar-film. She really IS good as the singer grooving up on the streets of Paris just to become a big star.
But the problem with La Vie En Rose is the non-stop misery and humiliation. It is extremely difficult to watch; as an audience you don't get time to swallow the first misery before the next one appears.
Maybe the film is 'A magnificent masterpiece', but it is difficult and tough to watch. Your feelings get hurt SO much that it is almost impossible to enjoy.
