Thank God! After watching a History of Violence, I thought I was gonna have to strike Cronenberg off! This movie is sublime, emotional, and flows like a dream. The acting is great, especially Vincent Cassel - Naomi Watts is completely believable in her role as a midwife. This is one of my favourites from Cronenberg so far - London the perfect backdrop and a fantastic script.

There is no question that 'A History of Violence' remains the better of Cronenburg's modern gangster films, but 'Eastern Promises' does still have qualities to hold its own. The two leads remain in tact as two of the better actors of their generation, and the plotline, although a little weak at times, and occasionally losing momentum, still remains interesting.
Cronenburg's London is not that of Ritchie's London; he uses the forgotten back allies and lost suburbia as the setting for this dark tale, which includes a violent attack in a Russian bathhouse.
Thsi film is worth watching for Viggo's character alone, who, with the tattoos, sleek black suit and shades, is the epitome of menace.
Decent enough.

A rather slow moving film here that lays the focus more on the storyline as opposed to action, the story however is quite interesting and unique. I would recommend this film to watch as a one off as it's something I enjoyed watching however not a film which I will rush to watch for a long time if ever again, give it watch though and see what you think.
