Number 1 DVD Reviewer
Cronenberg returns to the life of crime after the great History of Violence. This time he deals with the Russian Mafia in this London based thriller. Viggo Mortensen gives us his best performance to date as the Mafia foot soldier. Naomi Watts also gives a good turn in a slightly under written role. The film is excellent all the way up to the plot twist. Leading up to what should be a bloody showdown..... Well the film does end bloody....Too bloody quick. It's one of those ending where you think the disc has skipped a chapter, and you end up checking the disc to see if it's faulty!
But this flaw in the film does not stop the previouse 85 minutes from being a mesmerizing thriller, with burst of graphic and very bloody violence.
Don't be put off by the abrupt anti-climax of a ending, and give it a watch.
Better than expected .

I bought Eastern Promises on dvd because I heard it was good but it surprised me with how really good it was. Great acting great story and Viggo Mortensens Russian accent is so realistic. I really think he was unlucky not to win the oscar for best actor
