An excellent portrayal of the Russian Mafia, topped by a star performance by Viggo Mortensen.
A great twist at the end provides a good ending to a film which is fairly weak throughout with the weak and un-believable acting by Naomi Watts.
All round a good watch - not a classic!

Not a classic but worth a fiver.Vigo is hardly recognisable in this film , not sure my wife would still fancy him after this !. Plot somewhat predictable but still worth a watch.

Okay, It`s not an action packed shoot em up flick, but it`s still an interesting storyline with some very violent scenes in it. The films story is long, slow paced, dark and set in London involving russian mobsters. Viggo Mortensen is brilliant, his character is mysterious and does keep you interested in the storyline and there is a big twist towards the end of the movie. Dont expect lots of action, but this is thrilling drama and has you wanting more after the film has finished. Worth getting for your collection.

this movie is worth watching if you get it in the bargain section. the plot is fairly obvious however, atmosphere is maintained. acting is surprising good.

I was really anticipating a very good gangster film when i heard of this, i was expecting another Goodfellas... i'd be lying if i said i wasnt Disappointed but when you think how good a film has to be to beat a film like Goodfellas you think about the good parts of this films, considering it was English made i was very impressed well done Cronenberg.

This film reminded me of the all-time gangster classics i.e godfather etc. people may disagree, this film aint all about action as stated below, this film is more than that, it is a well produced/directed movie and the performances of the cast are simply brilliant, the spar and bath scene is chilling and should satisfy the gorefest in you, overall a very good filom, does justice to english gangster movies! NUFF SAID!

I honestly thought it was pretty good.
Viggo Mortensen made the film for me, would not have been the same without him.
The subtitles were a little too fast for me to read and even though it's quite a simple story it is sometimes hard to follow.
But Viggo was everything in this film.

dont listen too bad reveiws! if you like to watch a great film with twists & turns & have an attention span longer than a 6 year old you will love this.

The trailer for this movie promised alot of action,but didn't quite find the niche to deliver this.It moved along at a very slow pace and Naomi Watts performance as a nurse thrown into the underbelly of russia's mafia was unconvincing to say the least.However there were some scenes in the movie that were impressive mainly the fight scene with Viggo,and hired hitmen, that aside the movie leaves you asking the question "How much of my time did i spend watching this?".
Rent not Buy!!!!!

first in 'a history of violence' and now in 'eastern promises': i'm glad he's only an actor 'playing' a bad guy. imagine...
good movie, good actor, good fun.
