as a fan of robert downey jr. i must confess i'm very pleased he plays 'iron man': he has the looks, the charisma and the character for it, not to forget his wits.
jeff bridges also delivers as the evil one here, no lebowski to be seen. and who would not like gwynneth paltrow as a girlfriend?
visually this movie is awesomely good: flashy, shiny, very up to date not to say futuristic but within the 'you-can-believe-this-could-be-true' range.
of course it's a superhero movie, so there's a bit of surplus to reality, but who cares. that's what it is all about...
also the storyline is not too thin or too easy or just there to sustain the action. it's not an overall commercial movie although it's a blockbuster spin-off from the marvel comic.
you could say that you'll probably be satisfied with what you get served watching this movie. it's very enjoyable entertainment.
can they serve iron man 2 now please? i'm ready for it.

  A blast of an underdog?

Oh great, finally feel like giving a review and there's more than 200 of them at this point. To the point.. why watch this movie? It's the nearest I've seen anyone have come to match reading a comic book, and the humor involved in pictures and dialogue in such. Usually these comic book movies end up like just another movie and/or a shadow of the comic book itself. Underdog? Yes, because many may not see the comedy in a lot of the dialogue/acting. By my opinion the main character played by Robert Downey Jr. is exellently played. There's a hum/buzz of humour throughout the movie. This movie probably appeals mostly to people who read or have read comic books in the past and/or likes play of words style of jokes. Subtile / slightly cheezy humor is not for everyone. And it's by no means an usual action movie. Pleasantly surprised by this movie as even a lot of the jokes is on the cheezy side, they are done so well it leaves you with a smile on your face and/or just laughing out loud.

It's hard to capture comic books on the big screen, but in my opinion they have nailed it with this one. And it made me want to see more Iron Man. Thrilled to see they have made a scond one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Robert Downey jnr played Iron Man really well which made it all seem quite possible. One of the best Marvel (if not THE best) characters ever. A movie to watch over and over again. Amazing how that suit all fitted together!

i saw this the other day for the first time, and thought it would be good, but i felt let down, i didnt think it was very good especially considering it was Marvel

Fast-paced, action packed, lots of humour for adults and kids alike. And the movie doesn't stop with the end credits. Good movie, great price.

I did enjoy this movie and though it was very good....good action and good effects but personally...I was expecting a bit more from this movie.... overal it was worth watching and would appeal to most people...maybe I am being a bit harsh but I would say this movie was average...

New life in the superhero genre

It seemed that the superhero movies were following one of two trends; either they were getting darker or they were getting stupider...until this was released. No one new much about Iron Man but it blew their minds, and for a good reason. Funny and likable, Iron Man feels almost like a reason for Downey Jr. to mess around with his alter ego as he fits the part perfectly. In fact, the movie could just be Stark and his suit of armor messing around and it would still have been 100% enjoyable.

Which brings us onto the plot, or lack of, and the action. As mentioned the plot is missing and is riddled with holes but you find yourself not caring too much because Tony Stark is having a good time and so are you. Also what surprised me at the end of the movie was that for an action film, there really wasn't very much action but at the same time I couldn't have cared less. The film was well paced and well scripted, it had a terrific lead actor so what more could you want.
