Review

From writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, the creators of the groundbreaking The Matrix trilogy comes the live-action, high-octane family adventure Speed Racer - based on the classic 1960's anime series Mach Go Go Go.

Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized - the legendary Rex Racer - whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.

I had never even heard of the animation series which this film is taken from but i absolutely loved this film o.k. the colours were bright and the characters even brighter but i really enjoyed this thought that it was a fresh looking film ideally suited for young kids but i think that even the adults will enjoy it as i did.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars A fun movie to bring out the kid in you

I have to admit, I only went to see Speed Racer because of my teenage infatuation with Matthew Fox (Jack from Lost). I wasn't really expecting much - Just some mildly entertaining action sequences and a chance to see the very pretty Matthew Fox. :)
However, I was pleaseatly surprised by Speed Racer. It took a while to get going, but once it did, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. The visual effects are stunning and the concepts are unique and original. The performances won't win any serious awards but they're fun and nobody seems to be taking themselves too seriously.
Speed Racer also seems to be unique in the effect it has on people - Maybe it was all the pick n' mix I ate at the cinema, but I seemed to go in to see Speed Racer as a 17 year old girl and come out as a 6 year old boy - That is the magic of Speed Racer! :)

I found this an over the top, and frustrating movie. The cars seem to be straight from Dinky toys. The whole thing reeks of Wacky Races. I found it hard to watch, overly colourful and boring. Not the summer blockbuster it could have been.
