Having missed all three series when first aired, probably due to being a western, as I can take or leave the Western movies, but thanks to excellent word of mouth I decided to give it a go. From the very first episode I was hooked, this is simply some of the best Tv I have ever seen, and coming from HBO it can rate up there with Band Of Brothers and Generation Kill as some of the best hard hitting Drama to hit he small screen. Like Band Of Brothers and Generation Kill, this amazing box-set never is restricted to TV limitations, as the series never skimps on the brutality and language of the time. The show feels very realistic, and the story arc over the three seasons is brilliantly told. With superb performances all round, and a star making turn of Ian McShane, Deadwood is a western series that has to be seen, even like me if your not such a big fan of the subject. Don't go thinking your going to see a updated version of Bonanza, this show is gritty, brutal, and darkly funny. It's that good, it should be seen as a 36 hour long movie, and is so imersive, will stand up to repeated viewing.
This is probably the best Western ever made.
Just get this - it's the best program I've ever seen and you will be hooked from the first episode!
This tv show is one the best mature shows i have seen, the show dosen't holdback on profanity of any kind. It shows the wild west in darker gritty light, if you like things real and exceptionally dark then this is a show to have in your collection hooked.
However season 3 there is no plot menu for you to read, before watching the selected episode. Also the final season the dvd goes straight to german, which can be annoying other than that a well packagd boxset thank goodness for hbo.
For those who like real television drama you absolutely cannot forego watching Deadwood because this, along with The Wire, and The Sopranos are the greatest three television shows in history. There's not much more needs saying just that you will most likely watch all three seasons within days as you'll not be able to tear yourself away from it.
This series is outstanding, a must buy for anyone who likes westerns. Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant show amazing star quality. Such a shame there is no fourth series or movie planned,
