All the misfit characters living in the parish house feeding comic line after comic line off each other makes this series stand out and be consistently funny.Dermot Morgan, Ardhal O'Hanlan, Frank Kelly and Pauline McLynn all contribute by playing their characters to the hilt and make it excruciating viewing for the Catholic church itself which just makes it more watchable. You can imagine the Bishops and Priests cringeing when a contraversial subject is lampooned and the real sychophantic housekeepers tutting at Mrs Doyle's obsessions. The early sad loss of Dermot Morgan was the only reason the series ended which was a testament to his brilliant character that it just wouldn't have been the same without him. Each episode is memorable in it's own right and the whole series is a joy. Situation comedy rarely gets much better. Funny funny funny.
