The time is 1998. The setting is Macau. Every living soul jumps at every chance to make quick money before the Portuguese colony ushers in a new era under the Chinese rule. For the jaded hit men, they wonder where this journey will end. Against this background of fin-de-siècle malaise come two hit men from Hong Kong sent to take out a renegade member trying to turn over a new leaf with his wife and newborn baby. They soon find themselves in the throes of a dilemma when two of their former associates also show up, intent on thwarting them at every cost. An action filled epic from legendary Hong Kong director Johnnie To.

A must see, absolute bargain of a film.............

I purchased this purely on the basis of the trailer that was lumped on with another DVD I had recently got hold off.
I have no regrets - watched the film on the day it arrived and I'm so pleased that I have a compulsive nature at times. The film, even during it's quieter moments, rockets along, the action is very fast paced, well thought out and I loved the use of powder paint instead of liquid for blood spatter/trajectory etc. The film is also funny and touching at times and it's a shame Hollywood so often fails to manage this with films of this genre - no doubt it'll be remade for a wider Western market but that remake won't even come close to this version.
great stuff-buy it

A good movie, plenty of action, storyline is reasonable, amazing towards the end. Worth buying at 4.99. Great film at a great price!

you may have read that this is a kind of westernlike movie, and concerning to the themes (revenge, friendship, honesty, ...) that may be true. but these men aren't cowboys, they're maffiosi-linked killers with a strange kind of correctness.
it tells a good story, but sometimes i thought: "huh? where does this come from?"
one thing's for sure: there's action, there's shoot-outs, there's a lot of fun in it.
good action movie, with intelligent themes but without moralizing (that's something you can't say of director To)
