This is the latest creation from the man who created paul and pauling calf but also ALAN PARTRIDGE.
Do not compare the two, it would be unfair, what we do have here is the story of old roadie tommy saxondale a man who longs to cling on to his dreams (and stories) whilst working as a pest controller, all the while he must deal with his anger management issues, this is another great coogan character!
Buy and thank me later.
Very funny and very different to previous incarnations and for that is the reason this series is a difinitive purchase.

Not a series that grabs immediately the way Alan Partridge did but well worth sticking with. Coogan creates a rather sad character who can see his best years have passed without really achieving anything. The series' real strength is in the supporting charcters and Coogan generously giving them space, most obviously Morwenna Banks' poisonous receptionist, Ruth Jones as his long suffering girlfriend and there's some beautiful underplaying from the excellent Rasmus Hardiker as Saxondale's assistant.

Steve coogan is the master of character comedy and just as he did with Alan Partriddge, he has created a legend in Tommy Saxondale. Like Partridge, Saxondale is plagued with ineptitudes and personality defects but despite this is very funny, likeable and in fact becomes something of a working class hero. Coogan has not dissapointed with his new incarnation and all i can say is Steve Coogan God Bless yer, you bloody bloke!

I wasn't sure at first, after all he was Alan Partridge, probably my favourite TV character of all time. But after the opening scene of the anger management discussion group I was on board. Tommy is a maverick who wants to be different and likes to fight against authority all that seeks to opress him. With his lovely cuddly girlfriend Mags by his side he can take on the world.
Tommy is a pest controller whose job takes him through some funny experiences, look out for the Jeremy Clarkson clone he visits and also a horny housewife played by Lisa Tarbuck who hilariously attempts to seduce him over dinner. One of the highlights is the performance of Morwenna Banks as the ditzy 'Essex Girl' secretary who allocates Tommy's call outs, she's excellent with some great one-liners. So there it is.....buy it, you'll love it!

This is a very funny series, clever writing and well acted,Tommy's little storys of his experiences as a roadie in the 70's are hilarious as are the situations he finds himself in.His anger management classes don't seem to help his temper tantrums which are very funny. He's basically a good guy and a likeable character who constantly embarrases himself in front of his girlfiend and just about everyone he comes into contact with,it can make you cringe but it always well done.Lots of name dropping of 70's rock stars adds to the general amusement. His job as a pest controller is a masterstroke and he gets to impart his worldly wisdom on his customers. The DVD has some worthwhile extras, with deleted scenes and an interesting documentary.Good entertainment !

Saxondale is one of the best things I've seen for ages, it's proper rip roaring laughter stuff. Steve Coogan plays Tommy Saxondale who is cringeably brilliant. Who'd have thought the life and times of pest control could raise so many chuckles.

In the same way that Gervais went from Brent to Millman, Coogan has gone from the unaware idiot Partridge to the slightly embarrassing but clever Saxondale. While not hilarious throughout, it works because you care about what happens to the main character, and applaud inside when he gets one over on the people around him.
