Sarah Jane Smith is a truly remarkable woman. She inhabits a world of mystery, danger and wonder. A world where aliens are commonplace and the Earth is constantly under threat. A world that Maria Jackson - a seemingly ordinary girl - can only dream of until she moves in next door. Nothing will ever be ordinary again. In the first adventure, there's a new drink taking the world by storm - Bubbleshock! Everyone's drinking it. When Maria's dragged along to the factory tour by her new friend, Kelsey - a girl with an opinion on everything - she's plunged into the sinister world of Bubbleshock and the mysterious Mrs Wormwood. There's something terrible behind the hype - something Sarah Jane's interested in too...

The Sarah Jane Adventures are thrilling stories for children. Big adventures, superb effects, wicked comedy.

I've waited a long time for a series based on Sarah Jane Smith - and the wait has proved to be well worth it. However slick and moody and trendily postmodern the new Who and Torchwood may be (and I like both, don't think I don't) this is the spin-off which has inherited the spirit of the original series. Sarah Jane won my heart when she told her new young sidekick that, while agencies existed which dealt with alien contacts in a military, violent manner, she believed there were better ways. The Doctor used to think that too: it's great to see that quixotic, idealistic, inspired, witty approach revived. Elisabeth Sladen is still just marvellous as Sarah Jane and her supporting cast, adults and children alike, are also excellent. Bravo, all those involved with the SJA. I hope the BBC has the good sense to commission another season (despite the threatened cuts to children's programming) and that the rest of these first season adventures make it to DVD as well. I will be adding them to my Who collection, that's for sure.

Bold, fun and full of humor, this pilot episode is one of the best NuWho episodes around. A good plot, believeable acting and the Luke character is simply outstanding as a series regular. Watch this and enjoy, as Torchwood may finally have a rival.

shes back..and its about time !!!

well i have waited over 25 years for the next instalment of sarah janes adventures...k9 and company was the pilot episode that never made a full series in 1982.
all fans have soft spot for sarah, and
having her back albeit for childrens tv it is a welcome return to television.
liz sladen looks amazing and even the children actors are good ....good to see sarahs world through the young eyes of children...like the drs world through roses eyes.
this pilot is great episode and look forward to the new series in late sept....at last this pilot episode is out on dvd.....BUY IT!!!!

 Let the adventures continue !

Well I never saw this or the series as it was screended on CBBC while i was at work, wasnt to sure if it would be too child like.
I gave it a change and im glad I did, love the new Dr Who and torchwood and im pleased to say I love this too.
I dont feel its lost the Dr Who ness at all even tho it is aimed a bit more for the younger generation - I still believe adults would like it to.
For the fans that loved seeing Sarah Jane in series 2 and 4 of Dr Who im sure ull love a series dedicated to her and her "sonic-Lipstick"
It has its humour and its action and some heart felt sceens Sarah Jane and K-9 everything that Whoniverse is and will be
Just need to wait for series 1 and the comissioned series 2 to arrive on DVD now !

 Not for me...

I was eagerly anticipating this as an avid fan of Dr Who/Torchwood et al.

Boy, was I disappointed.

The effects are ok and Elisabeth Sladen is competent as ever....but the plot is really lame.

I then let my lads watch it and they were mightily unimpressed too. The supporting children are wooden and one in particular is just plain irritating; perhaps some may give this series a chance to develop, but it has a long way to improve if this taster is anything to go by.

As a final disappointment, K9's involvement is limited to mere moments.

I strongly advise to rent this first before buying.
