A fantastic gem of British comedy at its best, I grew up watching these as a kid and at times made me cry with laughter.

As a kid i hated this and thought it was a war comedy for OAP's and for many years dismissed it as 'boring' even though i never watched one single episode, having received it as a gift i settled down to watch them, expecting to switch off in the 2nd episode and over the next month with which it took to watch them i've got to say that it deserves it's place in british comedy history as one of the best sit coms ever, good british humour and characters, soo glad i gave it a chance.
Every episode is here including a synopsis of the main characters actors, unfortunately the movie version is left out
A salutary lesson in judgement.

The ultimate boxset for any Dads Army fan...

| | See all RingRaider's reviews (59)

Along with Fawlty Towers and Only fools & Horses, Dads Army is classic, vintage BBC comedy at its absolute finest!

This boxset contains all the series (1 & 2 are in black and white), along with the specials. On the additional discs, theres the appearance on "Blue Peter", an episode commentary and a public information film, along with various other snippets that any fan will find highly enjoyable.

The boxset itself looks great and very appealing. Very sturdy and keeps the discs in mint condition. As with two mentioned above, appeals to all ages and tastes. From your grandparents to your children. Be warned however, the language can be a little risque.

This along with,"Fawlty Towers", constitute sit-com.

Ok, it's worth pointing out that like so many other people, I bought the series disc by disc. So in fact I don't own the cardboard box that you see in the picture. I do however, own all the discs!

Dispite this though, the series is so good that I may have to go out and buy it again. I originally owned all the episodes on video tape and I do detect a little bit of editing here, although it doesn't say anywhere that it has been remastered it certainly has had a little nip and tuck between scene changes here and there.

The picture quality is of a good standard between series 3 - 9 as these are the colour series. The earlier episodes of the first two series are black and white ... and these have been remastered despite what it says. Maybe the BBC felt that they didn't need to do anything to the colour episodes????

Tagging along on the specials disc are plenty of those lovely little additional features that us DVD fans love so much. There's the appearance on "Blue Peter", a public information film and an episode commentary amongst other things to wet our taste buds.

If you haven't seen Dads Army before you are in for a real treat as it is really well written. Possibly better than you remembered!

It has over the years become a childrens favourite to, so if you are going to watch it with your children you may wish to know that the word "Bastard" appears in one or two of the early episodes. This may not bother you, but if it does ... They are safe with all the colour episodes. :)

Overall it's an enjoyable watch and I thoroughly recomend it to all those of you that remember it from it's original run, and if you don't remember it ...... then you really are in for a treat!!!!!!!!!!!!

have all of them on induvidual discs when they were first released on dvd by the bbc,as they released them by series numbers eg series 1,and now they are bringin out the complete dvd set, witch features the whole series, and if the bbc decide to release other comedies onto dvd,and the release them induvidualy, the best thing to do is to wait and find out if the bbc will then release them onto dvd box sets.
